All Tesla tax credits phase out at the end of this year because they have sold over 200,000 vehicles.

Have you even talked to someone who owns a TSLA?

They are cheaper to maintain, but not free.

A brake job on a model s is over 1500
Yearly maintenance/checkup 500
Car needs to go to the shop? Where is the nearest shop?

I didn't even include the cost of installing the charger at your house.

Another factor...do people negotiate on teslas? Can you relatively easily get 8-12% off msrp on teslas?

You can get great deals on all the ice trucks we're talking about.

Honestly have no idea on that for tesla.

This is really become and apples and oranges discussion,

Nobody that needs/wants a 250 or above will look at Tesla.

Nobody that will buy a fleet-level 150 will look at Tesla.

The crossover is people that buy an upper trim level 150 and rarely tow more than a small boat and don't use it commercially. The Tesla interior and bells and whistles put it far above a base 150 and above the upper trims in several ways. The 100 cubic foot "vault" that closes at a touch along with its 5 seats will likely lure some SUV/CUV owners. Just 10% of only the F150 market is over 100,000 units per year.

Not directed at anyone here but people keep moving the goalposts on EVs. No matter how much the range increases and the charging time goes down it still needs to be better. I hear this from people that literally only drive more than 100 miles in a day 3-4 times a year. They argue they aren't a good value because some econoboxes are a lot cheaper. It goes on and on. Current EVs are indeed not for everyone but a hell of a lot of people would be thrilled with them if they didn't spend so much time looking for a reason to dislike them.

I don’t disagree but then why are the tow and payload being touted as its selling points. They aren’t exactly positioning it as a luxury truck but I doubt it has an interior yet.

I would 100% buy the cybertruck at its supposed price level if it didn’t look so dumb. I’m quite vain

The size and ugliness of the cybertruck will keep me away.

The base model fits my needs and honestly I can justify buying one over a F150 or the like. I don't tow anything and care more about what is inside than out. I'm probably someone in their market. The rang-xiety will always be there I assume.

Think of the new Jeep truck. This thing falls in that same category to me. I can see owning one, but too many strikes against it.

Want to see the SUV body that goes on this chassis.

Ehh. I disagree.

Demuro put it a good way: With the cybertruck, you get more than a light duty full size, but you will pay more. You get less than a heavy duty and pay about the same (or still more lol)

I actually really like the cybertruck. But people are mistaken if they believe this thing, in its current state, will be a commercial success. Price the versions at 30k, 40k and 60k and it would make a lot more sense.

Feels like you're going way out of your way here to choose a side if you can't agree that the cost of ownership of a Tesla is meaningful and relevant to the discussion.

For someone who is looking at total cost of ownership it will be very important.

It takes 5 years to catch up.

Something cool the Cybertruck has that other traditional trucks don't have is the self driving option. I don't think any other truck manufacturer is close to implementing that. I'm not going to lie, I geek out thinking about that. I'm not a car person either. That is the only reason I don't own a Teslat already. Not a fan of the crossover Tesla has either. But the Cybertruck, and it's unique styling, got my attention immediately. I think it's going to be a huge success. If it is, watch for the other big car manufacturers start offering some really radical styling designs on all there vehicles.

What are maintenance numbers like on a Cybertruck?
If it's like their other vehicles, tires and windshield washer fluid is really it.

Brakes as well, but most people won't drive a car 150k miles or more to factor that in.

I think maybe an air filter every couple of years or something, but that's mostly it.

Factor in gas vs charging, the savings over 5 years are substantial.

Was wondering if I should just steal his whole script and post it in this thread haha.

He lays out well that the cybertruck is completely different from what made tesla so successful with their previous models.

You’re not a car person, that’s right.

Only non car people geek out about self driving vehicles.
