Not only that, but let's use taxpayer dollars to do it to our children.

I definitely depart from this boards general feeling on this. The government doesn't need to be providing children with sugar and grease laden foods. People are fat enough already and eating habits start young.

I doubt any kids are getting fat, because of school lunches.
They are getting fat, because of what they are allowed to eat when they get home. If you let your kid guzzle soda, shovel down junk food and crap at home, they are gonna be fat. It aint because of the school lunch.
Next time you are at the grocery store, look at what people have in their carts. Some of them don't have anything but a shopping cart full of snacks and junk.

So because they are getting junk at home then its ok to give them junk at school? Sounds like they need less of a bad thing, not more. And many public schools are serving lunch and breakfast. That's 2/3ds of their weekday meals that could be made better.

There were 4 kids in my family, we all ate breakfast and lunch at school. None of us were fat. The food was nutritionally balanced, and the proportions weren't oversized.
Then again, we weren't allowed to eat junk food at home, we didn't even have that stuff at our house.
If you wanted a snack, you had to crack open some pecans or shell some peanuts. Lot's of homemade pickles, we always had plenty of those. There might be some fruit, if you were lucky. usually raisins. In the summer, there were wild plums and blackberries and watermelons.

There’s a difference between providing kids with fatty foods and literally starving them like this program has done. My friend, who coaches at a local public school, said that they had to provide bread and bologna aside from the lunch because what the kids were getting fed wasn’t enough. For a lot of kids, a school lunch is the only meal they might get for the day. How on Earth are three chicken nuggets and a sweet roll going to nourish these kids?
