So because they are getting junk at home then its ok to give them junk at school? Sounds like they need less of a bad thing, not more. And many public schools are serving lunch and breakfast. That's 2/3ds of their weekday meals that could be made better.

There were 4 kids in my family, we all ate breakfast and lunch at school. None of us were fat. The food was nutritionally balanced, and the proportions weren't oversized.
Then again, we weren't allowed to eat junk food at home, we didn't even have that stuff at our house.
If you wanted a snack, you had to crack open some pecans or shell some peanuts. Lot's of homemade pickles, we always had plenty of those. There might be some fruit, if you were lucky. usually raisins. In the summer, there were wild plums and blackberries and watermelons.
