Ricks is longer and more physical. He is also very aggressive.

Fulton had adequate length with great quickness and technique. Much more patient.

I wasn't comparing their skill set, just their career trajectory. I think similar to Fulton, Ricks has guys ahead of him that will force him to wait his turn but when he gets his shot, he will shine.

...guys being ahead of him wasn’t the reason Fulton had to wait awhile...

His true freshman year it was and his sophmore year even if elligible he would have had Donte Jackson, Greedy Williams, and Kevin Tolliver ahead of him.

Fulton, Kevin Tolliver and Patrick Peterson are the last three 247 Sports composite 5-star corners to sign with LSU. Fulton rarely played important snaps as a freshman. Tolliver played a lot out of necessity and didn’t play very well. Pat Pete didn't start until the final four games of the season.

One thing that’s worth noting here is that Elias Ricks is an early enrollee. Of the 5-star corners you mentioned:
- Patrick Peterson
- Kevin Toliver
- Kristian Fulton
- Derek Stingley

Both guys that started 8+ games as freshmen, Stingley and Toliver, were early enrollees. Peterson and Fulton were not, so they didn’t practice until fall camp. If Patrick Peterson had a spring camp with the team, he very well might have started his entire freshman season.

That said, I agree with your overall sentiment. Derek Stingley is the highest rated corner LSU has ever signed, #3 on the 247 LSU all-time commits list, and would end up being the best DB in the history of the program if he keeps producing at this level. It’s not realistic to expect that type of production from ANYONE as a true freshman.

I wouldn’t say it’s out of the realm of possibility for Ricks to earn a starting role as a freshman, but it certainly seems more likely that it will Be Flott. We could have worse problems though. Competition is a good thing for the players and the program.

I think Ricks will be very good, but it may take him some time to crack the starting line up. He looks like a very instinctual CB, but maybe not the most physically talented.

As someone mentioned, Raydar Jones is a very interesting prospect. He's a really good quick twitch player, but has to learn a new position. He could be a future Mo Claiborne type.

Jay Ward Impressed me also. Has great ball skills/instincts. Showed up big time against florida on the goal line. Glad these guys have the offseason to get bigger, they didn't have time to develop with the Joseph/Neatherly transfers and that Louisiana summer heat

Clemson’s elite QB was scared to throw at Stingley. So whichever CB is lined up on the other side of DSJ24 next season should expect a shitload of opportunities to shine.

Ricks will be somewhere between Stingley and Flott from this year.

I expect him to end up somewhere between tredavious white and Fulton... Which is to say. Pretty dang good. But yeah I agree with others that he probably won't start this year at least.

I think he would be better in the nickle, if you watch his film he is just a play-maker intercepting balls left and right. Then just move Vincent to safety imo.

I think its Flott job to lose as well with, but everybody that keep saying Aranda rave about Flott, need to remember Aranda is not here anymore. My point, I think the field will be wide open

I love with the mention of Raydar we've likely got a very solid two-deep by mid-season next year. Need that depth to dominate at DB each play.

Not sure who starts outside, but both will play plenty barring injury.

Have a vision of several pick 6's with the more agressive style of Bo. That will be a beautiful thing.

I fully expect Stingley, Flott and Pick6 Ricks to completely shut out any WRs. I doubt anyone will have a completion and that nearly every ball thrown will be a pick 6.
