It absolutely matters. Some try to paint the narrative that anyone can die from Covid-19 when the reality is 99% of the deaths under 67 is due to underlying health issues. Obesity is an underlying health issue especially when it comes to a virus that attacks the respiratory system.

And? This can be said for any illness that causes death. Why is this one any different?

Ok, I'm just curious. This type of data does matter to me as I continue to change my life to protect myself and my loved ones. I'm not trying to downplay it with that "underlying conditions" trope.
I don't think knowing the age of the victims is garbage at all. I think it is more useful than the health conditions aspect because that is less quantifiable and fuzzier.
I asked because my interpretation from the OP is that he wasn't that old. And it does add an even sadder context to the story.
