Absolutely fricking not.

That sets an absolutely orwellian precedent and it's not a path we want to walk down. If we can't self police as a society and see through the lies and bullshite then we get the society and government we deserve. This is our bed. We made it we have to lay in it. Never defer power to the government. Ever.

Think about it this way.

If the good, armed people of society had to stem these rioters and violence on their own, without government assistance, that would be no problem. But what if those rioters were the government themselves? Military and law enforcement with the backing of politicians? That would be a much tougher battle. Likely a war of attrition.

No, but would have no problem if social media voluntarily shut down for several days to help stem the violence.

I would be for it just to frick with the journalists who see no problem shutting down churches for months for what is essentially the flu (especially outside the NYC MSA).

On one hand I think it would be a great idea, on another it would scare me to think about our Government going to this length.

The most responsible thing would be for these social media companies to shut their platforms down and rebuild them so they were less vulnerable to manipulation, disinformation, and promoting extremism. Every country in the world having to deal with this (or has acted to prevent by state control) and these platforms have toppled long-standing stable regimes, created genocides, and probably worse to come.

We still have freedoms in this country.

I mean, twitter isn't the shining beacon of freedom of speech.

I do get you though, slippery slope.

Still if facists get to power they won't look back and say "Well Trump didn't in 2020 so, out of respect for precedent set, we wont."

Progs will squash freedoms, they don't respect the constitution.

Nope. This isnt a kindergarten class where the teacher lectures the class and makes everyone put their head down because Jerome cant stop yelling and throwing his glue sticks at other kids.

But I can't believe when the cameras pan the crowds at the riots how many of the people are holding their phones up videoing everything
Most of these people are idle idiots who want to be a part of something.

No, but I would be in favor of killing cell service to areas where there are riots so that the different groups cannot coordinate with each other.

Like in NYC, a group will draw NYPD to one area and other groups will get on phones/social media and coordinate areas where there is little or no LEO presence and target those areas.

You don't even have to kill all of it (as some first responders use cell tech for their radios) but just take down the civilian part of the spectrum.

You referred to this as present tense and not past tense.

I don’t care how good the _____ is, someone else’s is better and they aren’t as much of a bitch.
