I said this yesterday, but posting mugshots en masse of people without context, stories, or convictions is a pretty abhorrent practice.

It isn't racist, it is fricked up for all races.

Unfortunately, a lot of innocent people are arrested. Those people who have charges thrown out or vindicated upon investigation still have their names and pictures dragged through the mud for the entire community to see.

In 2020 and with our technology, those pictures never disappear. It can legitimately be life ruining.

I think this part is fair though:

quote:

Exceptions can include when a suspect is arrested and accused of committing capital murder, corruption by public officials or crimes involving a breach of public trust. And, we’ll use them when a search is ongoing after a violent crime or in unusual instances when the mugshot is of compelling public interest.

Correct. I've never understood the practice to begin with.

What's upsetting is these news outlets using this as an opportunity to virtue signal vs. doing what was right in the first place.

I am completely on board with the media having a more conservative approach. They have zero accountability ATM.

I agree with this completely. Plus these people haven't been adjudicated yet their mugshot is out there for ever. Its a fricked up practice.
