many of these athletes are very smart.. as in they go on to be doctors, accountants, engineers and all manner of high skilled professionals...
So the fact that some finish school early is not really a surprise...

This stereotype is prevalent because most of these athletes are knuckle dragging morons.
There is nothing wrong, and much to recommend, stereotypical thinking about a group. It becomes evil when we apply these stereotypes to individuals.
