He could have quietly demanded a trade without running his mouth. Today's players think that they are bigger than the game.
Adams has been demanding to be traded since before last season. Still don't agree with publicly bashing your coach, but it isn't like this is the first step he took.

He wanted a big contract after year 2, which was stupid because he had no leverage to force the Jets in to giving him one. He was (and still is) locked into his initial 4 year rookie contract. That, unnecessarily on his part, created animosity. Plus, no team was going to trade the necessary pieces to acquire a pro bowl player who they might only get for 2 years before he bolted in free agency.

The Jets picked up his 5th year option. They control him (contractually) for two more years. Even now teams are going to be VERY hesitant to meet the Jets (likely) big asking price for a trade to get a guy they don't know if they'll be able to sign long term. He may not like the rookie contract structure, but he should have just kept quiet (at least externally), played his first four years at a high level THEN, going into year 5 make demands for a big contract extension or threaten to hold out in his option year. That could have forced the Jets' hands. Either pay him big, or watch him leave after the season...one in which he may not even play.

Instead, he's taken the George Costanza approach for 2 years now and is essentially trying to get fired. However, the Jets don't have much incentive to trade him right now. He's still on his "cheap" rookie deal this season. Unless a team just gives them some ridiculous trade offer they can't refuse, they can just hold on to him and "eat" the relatively small cost if he wants to sit out.

He's a great player. But he's also, unnecessarily, making himself look like a potential problem to the rest of the league
