You know, when you think about it in a purely survival mindset, cold weather is far better than hot weather, if for no other reason than food storage and preserving. Hot weather is a Petri dish for food spoilage whereas cold weather is far more conducive to preserving, and keeping food, even freeze dried food from going bad. This probably has a lot to do with population differences from North to South pre electricity and refrigeration in North America. Growing seasons are shorter, but if you prepare properly, you stand a much better chance of survival long term.
