Admittedly, I would not know where to start for options to replace. Would Auburn or Texas assistant coaches come this way?

Same facility the Diving team spanks the SEC schools with every year. Remember the dump of a facility the gymnastic team used to work out of? And they were spanking the entire NCAA. Previous swim coach didn’t cry about the facility, he just got results. 5th in SEC Men and 5th in SEC Women when he handed Gayer the keys.

Correct. The team actually went from 4 morning workouts per week under Schmitt to 6 morning workouts per week after he left.

Now is the time to bring in a great coach and to build a great program.

e had a decent one prior to this last coach, but the athletes complained that he worked them too hard. He made them run/swim early in the morning if he caught them drinking or breaking curfew.

When was this? I partied pretty hard with a lot of the swim team in the early-mid 2000s.

Exactly. Geyer snookered a good coach out of his position 10 years ago. Then he led the team from 5th in the SEC to the bottom of the barrel for a decade. Woody don’t play.

Assistant coaches? Based on the precedent set in WBB and the majority opinion of this board, Woodward should be spending whatever it takes to get the Auburn or Texas head coaches to lsu.

Yep, I was there when LSU built the current natatorium....or actually is was built with money from the US Olympic Committee for the National Sports Festival held at LSU in '85. Its old but I swim at SMU now and their facilities until 3 years ago were way worse than LSUs and they still have some good teams.

Seems like it would take a new facility to get a top tier coach.

Doesn’t matter. Spend whatever it takes to get the best coach available. That’s the precedent that’s been set. It’s not your money, afterall.

I would look at Louisville's coach. He was an assistant at alabama before going to Louisville so may have interest in coming back to the SEC. Virginia's coach is also very good but he has only been there since 2017.

Chris Ip who used to be at Clemson would be a real consideration. He actually assisted at LSU for a year. He is a great recruiter.

6 early morning Wouk outs a week? Sounds like classic over training. You know, summer league.

Will be more interesting to see if they will spend on a facility. The only thing I know about Swimming and Diving is that the Natatorium is one of the worst facilities in the country.

That place is a dump on the outside. Can’t imagine it’s any better on the inside

I was just pointing out to my son all the places around campus that Rick made us run to in the weee hours of the morning. But that’s normal really. Who doesn’t cross train in swimming? I always ran the route. Some of the guys would scale the golf course fence to get to Burbank and back to the track or stadium faster. Year before I got there one of the guys (was our capt that year) got hit by a car on a morning run.
