I can’t tell you how many times in the last month that I’ve wished for one of those systems so I didn’t have to yell like an a-hole to my kids up in their playroom.

We had one in a new townhouse we bought in 2004. It connected to the doorbell, and also had a radio in the main hub in the kitchen. It was pretty cool at times. We had a speaker in the kitchen, out on the deck, in the master bedroom, and in two common areas. You could tune the radio in the kitchen and each room control the volume or turn it off. Also had an AUX input in the kitchen so you weren’t stuck with FM radio.

You can buy a wireless intercom system on Amazon for $50 to $100.

We used one at work in the 80s. It was handy to communicate between three buildings.
