One of my favorites. Go watch how pumped Saban was when we made the stop in OT to win the game. Got to be the last time he jumped into a players arms with exhilaration until he became lovers (allegedly) with McCarron years later. This was part of that run that catapulted Josh freaking Booty to being named 1st team all SEC QB. If Booty comes back in 2001, LSU wins the natty.

It was the only home game that year I had to miss because of a prior engagement. I was pissed I didn't get to watch most of it, but did catch the final 7 minutes or so (plus) OT. It looked like a crazy time in the stadium and due to the fact event I was attending at the time turned out to be a bit boring, I was even more aggravated I skipped the LSU game because of it.

They even made it to Atlanta a feat that Ole Miss still hasn't done

I'd say Rohan led the offense just fine in 2001. Offense was never that team's problem.

If the insinuation is that Booty and/or Davey would've been the backup QB against UF instead of Mauck, I'd say that UF still wins that game. They had LSU's number that day.

had the inside track on winning the West going into that game.

Yep, lost the west by losing to Arkansas during a game where it starting sleeting and State blew a lead and then a 4th and goal in the 4th QTR to tie it up. Arkansas won 17-10.

i believe that was the team that upset florida that year in starkvegas.

Yep, Jackie had 3 goals in that game. Smother them on defense, run the ball down their throats, and make Spurrier slam his visor on the ground. We accomplished all of that.

We had the gators at one point 3 & 57.

we embarrassed UF so bad and Steve was so pissed at Jackie that the following year, Spurrier kept the starters in all game and they beat us in the Swamp 52-0. And part of me respects that.

No doubt.
Hearing stories about how miserable the Hallman and last two Dinardo years were, really puts the joy and elation of the early 2000’s into perspective.
Those that sat through that shite show were definitely rewarded for their loyalty and suffering in ‘03. Haha

Jackie Sherrill would have been at a legend at a top revenue-generating school. He was as good as any coach in his day, but the NCAA isn’t going to stand by while the likes of Mississippi State beat Bama at their own game.

That was the most exciting and entertaining game in Tiger Stadium that I've ever been to. I'm not saying it was the best game I've been to, that would be 97 Florida followed by 03 UGA. But as far as pure entertainment and excitement goes, it's the 2000 Miss St game. The Tiger Stadium crowd was absolutely on that night. The MSU players talked so much trash before that game that it had everyone pissed off.

Well, I sat through many games during the fallow years of 1989- 1999. What I remember is the LSU fans back then, frequently less than a full Tiger Stadium, were the most devoted to their team, even though the teams weren't good back then.

That was the year after I graduated at LSU. While I went to some of the other big games in 2000, the Miss St game was the 1st big win that I didn’t attend in person and I remember feeling bummed about that but happy we pulled out the W.

Um, no. And I'm speaking as a man who has great admiration for Josh Booty and his family.

Even if Booty had come back and had a stellar year in 2001, LSU wouldn't have come close to a national championship. The defense led by Jake Gibbs was terrible, and the pass defense that year was the worst by an LSU team til last year's Pelini experiment.
