You do know that Tom Herman recruited Burrow to Ohio St, right? If Ed is not in the picture, perhaps Alleva ponies up for Herman, and we win multiple championships with Burrow and Aranda? Who knows?

If my grandfather had a pussy he'd be my grandma. I wanted O gone my damn self but the dude won the title in 2019. He handed Burrow the keys to the LSU program. Herman was never actually coming here.

Whatever helps you sleep better.

On paper, that's what happened. He still gets paid and he technically still has a job (with very few responsibilities).

He has been retained to help LSU lure Kiffin.

It’s a secret but will become evident in short order

Plot twist - It allows him to make 100% of his buyout without any of the stress or responsibility.

Grateful for the Championship he got us, but let's not make him a martyr. The dude literally getting paid to bang whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

I was telling a friend this last night.

Unless some Les Miles' type sh!t comes out, he will get Charley Mac-type treatment in his retirement years.

Paul Dietzel left for West Point on his own after saying he wouldn't leave. He's sort of in the same situation as Nick Saban -- although Saban will not be welcomed back because of his success and dominance at Alabama.

Les Miles turned out to be Les Miles.

None of our other coaches had any real success so they're not really "beloved." Stovall is beloved more as a player.

But, Charley Mac is beloved and was always welcomed back because he had some moderate success and always loved LSU. He did everything he could for LSU to his dying days. His biggest "problem" was that he couldn't beat Bear Bryant, which no other SEC schools could do at the time. So, despite the "Help Mac Pack" bumper stickers all over Louisiana in the late-70's/early-80's, he became a beloved former coach.

Because of the way Ed O handled his exit, I think he'll be in the same category as Charley Mac.

O resigning

lol, wut?

In the real world, this is called an "Exit Strategy". Both parties got together and, at the benefit of the organization, it was determined that the HC would remain in his position until the end of the season. At that point, the HC will be relieved of his duties and paid a negotiated amount of money considering he was not fired with cause.

O did not, even remotely, "resign".

Sure, there's a small group of y'all that think that guy can do no wrong based off of 2019 and the "One of Us" mantra...but I think the vast majority will have to go through some years before the sting of the last couple of years goes away.

O didn't do anything noble - he got his full buyout.

With his full buyout, why would it get messy?

Yeah, I think it will be a farewell tour for O. Whether he was in over his head or not, a ton of people still really like the guy. Heck, there are still a bunch of people who disagree with him being fired. Knowing he will no longer be the coach after this year there will be a strong following for O definitely at each home game for the Tiger walk and other things. I'd love to see him win a couple more on the way out and ride off into the sunset as a coach after.

It was definitely time for a change though.
