I’m going to be playing fantasy baseball for the first time this year. In fact, I’m playing with a group of friends most of whom will be playing for the first time.

I’m looking for a few tips.

What website is best to form the league? ESPN? Yahoo?

Any scoring settings I should use rather than the default settings?

Any tips for drafting?

Anything else I need to consider?

You won’t be fully competent until year 3. Just draft bpa for your first draft.

For beginners I'd recommend head-to-head points leagues. That's what got me hooked over 20 years ago. I actually prefer Roto now but it took many years to get there.

I prefer ESPN over Yahoo, but both are fine.

I would allow a large # of teams to make the playoffs so that more teams are engaged late in the season and still setting their lineups. Another way to accomplish this is to have a small pot for weekly high score.

Good luck, in no time you'll be watching Detroit at Pittsburgh on a random Thursday afternoon and will care more about the outcome than any of the 500 fans in attendance

Go to PitcherList and you will be highly competitive in year 2 if not by the end of year 1.

The absolute best info out there especially for pitching. Nick Pollack is like the final boss of “fantasy pitching experts”. Good articles, good podcasts. It’s a website for baseball NERDS but the information is very useful.

I wouldn’t say it’s really geared toward any specific league format either.

And yea I vouch for H2H points as well. I’ve been playing for about 12 years. H2H points is still my favorite format.
