My best friend raises Sinker Cypress Logs out the Atchafalaya. Has his own saw mill. Last time I talked with him, he had around 10,000 board foot of cut lumber. Everything is rough cut, all 20ft long. Most all these logs have been cut at least 100 years ago.

His mill is in Bayou Pigeon.

I've dealt with these folks over the years for bulk buys of cypress and would do so if I need it again for projects.

The business is located south of Mansura, La. on La.1 in Batchelor, La. called Jones and Jones Cypress.

Their phone number is 318-359-8061.

Since my father-in-law died a few years back I don't get up that way much, but when I was passing there to get to his house several times a year I'd stop and buy a few hundred dollars of 1 x 6 cypress to use for projects I had taken on.

Jones and Jones is as nice and honest people as you will ever find. I tried to use Cypress Depot one time and finally left after about 30 minutes because it seemed like I was bothering them.

I ordered about $500 of cypress from them and could not make it to their place except on a Sunday morning on the way back to N.O. after helping my now late father-in-law in Mansura during a medical emergency.

They were kind enough to open their business early that Sunday morning to let me get my order, helping me load my truck with the lumber to head back home. Top notch customer service and good people to deal with.

I work for one of the largest hardwood importers in the country. Been in the industry for 30+ years. Guy Jeansonne at Jeansonne Millwork in Alexandria is where I’d go. Guy does not own a sawmill, but he has relationships with the larger sawmills that will not sell to the public. Guy has bought tropical lumber from me for years and I’ve bought truckloads of cypress from him when I couldn’t find what I needed locally. His pricing is always in line with current HMR (Hardwood Market Report) and the quality and grade meet and or exceed NHLA (National Hardwood Lumber Association) grading rules. Bottom line he’s a straight shooter and honest man.

I'm wanting to source enough Black Limba for an office desk project. Not quite ready to take on the project yet, but I'm bookmarking this for when I'm ready.

We import all those African exotic species. Give me a holler when you get ready. I’m guessing we have 20,000 BF of it in various thicknesses. At least in 4/4 or 8/4.

Hate to derail this thread, but what kind of b/f price am I looking at. I've asked all of my local lumbermills and wood retailers and none of them have a source for limba. Looking mostly at 4/4 and maybe a few 8/4. Probably about 200-300 B/F.

I'm in Fort Worth Tx, but for this project I'd be willing to drive to Louisiana to get it. May conjure up another project or two in the meantime.

We sell to lumber distributors up there like Brazos Forest Products in Grand Prairie, Sweeney Hardwoods, Straight Line, Central Hardwoods, Dakota Hardwoods, and dozens of others. Those are the bigger hardwood distributors in the DFW metroplex. Our tractor trailers shuffle lumber up there twice a week out of Lufkin, Tx. I’m surprised you are being told that stuff can’t be found because we sell a lot of African exotics. I’m traveling this week and haven’t made it to my hotel in Birmingham. Let me get settled in and I’ll get my laptop out and check inventory.

Correct answer. Solid outfit and as honest they come. I have done business with them for 20 years and you will not find many like these folks.

Interesting. I usually shop at a spot called Barney Robinson hard woods and Fort Worth Lumber company. Neither of them could source it. Sweeney, I think is relatively close. I'll give them a call and see what they say.

I’m sorry I got tied up and forgot to look that up for you. Literally sat down at my hotel and started dozing off. Long day yesterday. Sweeney out in Fort Worth can help you. I’m not real familiar with Barney Robinson Lumber. Seems like I’ve seen some orders go there but Texas is not my sales territory. I handle everything east of Texas. Basically we divide the country up. Tell them to check with Pudge at OHC (Overseas Hardwoods Company). Our headquarters is in Mobile, AL, but we have a huge facility over in Lufkin. Go to www.ohc.net and click on the millwork division and it will list the bulk of the species we stock.

Can you send your friends contact to ameenehe@yahoo.com.

We are about to build in St. Francisville and would love to incorporate sinker into the home design.
