This was true until 2014ish. One of the reasons Les got fired is because we started to see a big talent decline on the offensive and defensive lines in his final years and we lacked depth.

Les got fired because he refused to adapt on offense. He didn't get fired because of lack of talent anywhere, besides maybe QB.

How do people go through life seeing and thinking the negative about EVERYTHING? It just seems like such a miserable existence.

I'm an LSU fan on a message board about LSU football. The biggest issue in LSU football is attracting two starter DTs from the transfer portal where there is slim pickings. Our DT position consists of one starter worthy veteran, one depth piece transfer, a few warm bodies and an incoming 5 star freshman.

It's literally the #1 topic on LSU football right now. And based on the reports, it's not going well. That's not "being negative about EVERYTHING." That's acknowledging that this is not going well and the ramifications could impact the success of the 2024 season.

People can label it a melt, a cause for concern, being chicken little or acknowledging reality. If you look at my other posts, I don't think I fall into the hysterical bucket. Just last week I urged caution in this thread about not overreacting if we lost some seemingly top prospects to the portal as it was necessary to make room for reinforcements on the DL in particular.

Anyway, remember this is a message board.

Either we overpay for two mercenaries now. Or we struggle mightily again in the defensive trenches.

Or we could overpay for mercenaries that don't end up being very good anyway and we still suck in the trench.

Or we could not overpay for mercenaries and end up being surprisingly mediocre, or even decent.

Portal players are not a guaranteed improvement.

fricking Auburn has sucked for going on a decade and shouldn’t be outbidding us.

Auburn has big time Yella Wood money behind them.

What did he say?

I think I should’ve linked another article instead of interview but he was asked about the portal and only mentioned DT position.

Can't outbid? I doubt it

The LSU collective can not match Miami or Texas.

More likely they made a rational decision that they don't these players enough to outbid.

The plan might not include these players.

There’s only 1-4 names that are worth anything at the DT position with a handful of teams desperately going after.

Bottom dwellers of the SEC right now. And the DB situation is only better, not because of high level talent, but just since there are bodies that can walk.
It will lead to several losses and a defense that will be in the bottom of the SEC again this year. Spend millions and millions on changing coaches and have less talent going into Year 3. BTW, that terrible DL last year of Mingo, Jefferson and Smith probably all get drafted this weekend.
And the offense will take a step back.

Possibly. I don't think any of these guys are elite and they are going to get big pay days. When others see this they may take the jump as well.

It's the sad state of where college sports are evolving but you either adapt or watch your program start to slip. It has a MLB feel to it since there is no cap. The big market teams (wealthier schools or boosters) will buy their way into competitiveness.

I get wanting money. But there's love of an environment and the school. And everything that offers. I'm not saying that should or shouldn't replace the money. But to me the perfect school and the perfect environment and surroundings plus getting paid would beat getting paid a little bit more at the school I didn't really care about, But that's just me. And That's if this is the case. Obviously they could really love another school besides LSU .)

It's legitimately insane to me that people STILL think that NIL money is coming from the athletic department.

The tens of millions of dollars generated by LSU football is totally separate from NIL money.

Make no mistake. BK is setting NIL policy regardless of who is in control of the purse. It's his team and if he doesn't want a player being paid then that is that.

That's not really what a lot of these kids are looking for. They see this college game as a means to an end, or a launching pad to get to the NFL.

They aren't seeing this as a lifetime experience where you build your network of friends and colleagues.

You can't just go and pay an average level DT the most money on the team just to come here. That's how things go South quickly.

What I think is crazy is that these players aren’t game breaking All-American type players. They’re just decent starting quality players and teams are throwing the kitchen sink at them. Just wild

How many times does BK have to prove y'all wrong before you give him the benefit of the doubt ?

I used to love TigerDroppings, but it sucks now because people are pussies. Yall sound like my wife.

We've got one, we need 2 more. Y'all really think we wont get 2 more ? I think some of y'all might need to go change your fricking Tampon.

Blame Brian Kelly. He is the one that said they are focusing on signing top quality DT. They supposedly freed up a bunch of money to go after the top guys and we can’t outbid Auburn?

It's likely that when talking numbers, they're coming in too low. The sad part is they may well have more money to put on the table up front than they are choosing to. They've got to put enough on the table to move the argument to which team is actually ready to win a national championship.
