Doesn’t the portal with unlimited transfers make it easier to build a team quicker?

Especially in a sport with only 5 starters. Maybe I’m wrong.

Kentucky basically has a completely new team every year.

depends

does the coach before leave you any good players?

does the coach before leave a large, black cloud over the program?

I feel like most folks overestimate the amount of talent available in the portal.

Most are either taking a step up in competition, want more money, or not getting playing time and two of those three things don't usually lead to future success.

With the portal and a sport with only 5 starters (purpose of my question) what the previous coach leaves is irrelevant

Kentucky is a media cabal-protected blue blood. They had carte blanche even before NIL to do whatever they wanted and get a slap on the wrist for it

In football definitely. In basketball, probably not as much because there were a ton of graduate transfers even when they had to sit a year as a regular transfer. Iowa State went from total crap to a tournament team the year before you could transfer freely. It wasn’t that hard to build a good team quickly already in basketball.

Come to LSU and join our prestigious basketball program. Look at all the champions who came before you

You know the talent pool is not the same as sports with more starters

I get what your saying here but LSU has had its fair share of basketball greats.

Zero National Championships and hardly any seasons to brag about is going to be a hard selling point

not necessarily.

if the right players aren’t available, you ain’t getting them.

Sometimes it works.

Arky & Mizzou had really good seasons bc of transfers the last year or 2.

It didn't work this year though.

The unknown upcoming sanctions and Wade’s refusal to have the decency to at least tell LSU which players he did or did not pay absolutely killed us. McMahon not only got the job in late March, had to completely gut the roster and then only had 4 months to field a team.

The portal is a total crapshoot. Look no further than our cb’s this past year.

That’s why they never win championships lately. No chemistry and no leadership. They get all these 5* one and dones and win games, but lose in the tournament. You have to build team chemistry and some junior and senior leadership

I love the narrative MM had no talent last year. He had 3 starters from the year before plus brought with him 3 players that lead him to the sweet 16 the previous year. He’s an average coach who does great in a small conference. He’s not sec good and wade is. People don’t like wade because he didn’t kiss the ring here and did it his way. Kansas gave self and extension, Auburn gave BP an extension, we fired wade. LSU can’t handle men basketball being good

The delusion is strong with this one...
