If Emry will be granted a 6th year, then what purpose did the suspension serve?

What do you mean? He didn’t get to play that year.

Normally you get 5 to play 4. If you are suspended and have not red shirted you use the red shirt. He also gets an injury year and a covid year. NCAA has to grant the injury year but covid is everyone.

Covid turned a 4 year college career into 10 years… admire him for sticking it out and graduating but he was so injury prone / academic issues……but we never saw his potential enough…he’s built for pro football if he can stay healthy….

The prevailing idea on this board that you can't redshirt when you are academically suspended was always incorrect. Yet it somehow became ingrained in the hive-mind here.

He also did not receive any kind of medical redshirt and he also was not "granted" a 6th year.

He simply is using a redshirt year and a covid year, which are available to everyone who played in 2020, that gets him to 6 years.
