Is Death Valley dead?

I’ve been a tiger fan my whole life. I remember going to a few games as a kid where the whole stadium was rocking all game and it was LOUD before every opposing snap. The stadium was full and I rarely saw an empty seat at those games. Then, when I became a student in 2014 I started to notice fewer and fewer fans at the games, lower and lower crowd noise, less and less passion. My real question is what happened? Since 2014 (when the new section above the purple end zone was added) I haven’t seen a single game where every seat was full. Not against Florida, not against top ranked bama, not even when we had an undefeated national championship team that is now known as the best team to ever do it. Where is everyone? And on top of that why does everyone leave before the game is even close to being over? I went to the Florida game a couple weeks again and the stadium was practically empty after half time! I’d like to hear what others have to say about this. I also think the new stadium section was a mistake. The stadium is too big. Nothing makes a stadium look worse than empty seats. What do you guys think?

For a seemingly young person, you sound like a bitchy old man.

It’s not dead.
It’s still the best place in CFB for big games.
We just don’t get up like we used to for smaller games. But that’s all across the country. You can debate the reasons for that at length.
Next season you will see TS at its best with our home slate.

LSU stadium experience is boring as hell. As much as the olds hate the Bama lights, piped in music, etc …it has to happen to keep butts in seats for 4 quarters
Also doesn’t help that LSU has high schools kids that don’t give a shite working the concessions

Since they closed in the south upper, it has certainly lost something.
The band needs to play between every down. No more piped in music. Get the crowd going and chanting, not dancing to crap music.

Three steps to fix:
1) Reduce capacity to 60,000
2) Double the cost of tickets
3) Cut student seating in half
I would include better bathroom and concessions, but we know that will never happen.

BS
It was full for Bama last year. It was pretty damn full this year for a game vs a 5-4 Florida team too.
Weird thing to bitch about when we’ve got multiple home games next season that should be HUGE.

Oklahoma

A lot of the bitching here isn’t exclusive to tiger stadium, it’s just the state of game days both professionally and collegiately across the country.
People don’t want to spend 6 hours both ways in traffic commuting, parking, and dealing with weather, shitty food, service, and all kinds of stupidity to watch LSU play GA State when they can do it on 65 inches of high def TV from their sofa with all the comforts they desire.
For big games Tiger Stadium remains untouched.

Is the Florida game the only game you’ve attended this year? If so, why? Maybe there’s your answer. As a season ticket holder for a gazillion years it irritates the hell out of me when I get texts from people sitting on their arse at home asking where all the fans are, complaining it looks bad on TV, doesn’t sound as loud as it should, blah, blah. I realize LSU has made it way too expensive for many. I know the concessions suck. I experience the horrific postgame traffic. But IMO if your arse is sitting in your living room you need to STFU.

They have priced the rowdy crowd out . The richer folks sit there on their phones and leave early to beat traffic. Hard for the common man to afford season tickets nowdays.

Technology and traffic

Combination of things but it would require a change of attitude by LSU. East upper should be closed or converted to premium seating. The stadium was over expanded. Work on traffic ( yes it can be better for example make it easier to switch parking passes to other lots) . Give season holders ticket rights so those that rarely go to game can sell their seats permanently to more eager fans ( saints do it and it works) .

You’re probably 26-28?
Stfu. We aren’t annoying boomers Go to the games and enjoy them.

Students leaving the student section before the game is over has been a perennial problem. I don't think there is a solution for it. The student section used to be way larger than it is today and remember that the university exist for the students. There will have to be an incentive for the students to want to attend the games and to stay for the entire game.
Fans will get excited if we have a chance for a national title.
There are too many regulations on parking and tailgating and the price of everything is high.
There was a time when the game was not on tv. Now every game is on tv and my restroom is only 40 feet away and my soft drink only cost about 50 cents. My sofa is lot more comfortable.
With all that said a game in Tiger Stadium can be a life changing experience. I still remember as a small child seeing Charlie Macs' last game in Tiger Stadium.

quote:Students have been getting squeezed for some time now. They now track student donations just like TAF points. You have to join a club to increase your chances of getting tickets and then you're given 1/2 season options (4 game package).
3) Cut student seating in half

The problem is the fat losers in there who’ll get mad at you for being a little too rowdy.

Food sucks, bathrooms suck and you can pay less and get a better view from the recliner.
The Upper deck has been empty all season especially during the Florida game. Students aren't the bigger isssue here.

Stadiums are now competing with living rooms that have 85” LED TV’s, your fridge and bathroom are close, favorite foods and there’s zero traffic.
LSU doesn’t get this.
Also the kill shot to Tiger Stadium is the corporate takeover of seats. All seats between the 20’s are now owned by companies who give them to clients, prospects, coworkers, and others who aren’t passionate about LSU football.
But LSU gets paid so who cares. All about the dollar.
