Man, Joe Burrow was an accurate motherfricker.

The reason the yardage is lower is because if you gave Burrow a short field, it was over.

A no show second half against Florida state and failure to get five yards in two plays against ole miss.

Defense sucks blah blah blah. But it’s fine margins like that that will separate the two, bc agreed in large respects this offense is close to on the same level as 2019, albeit with two, potentially three, big games left. But you can’t ignore those two missed opportunities

There is no blah blah blah that the defense sucked in our losses.

Sure. If you’re comparing on an all time scale like 2019 then sure. But neither of those games was on the offense and they’re still great in pretty much every aspect.

2019 played Georgia Southern, NW State, Utah State, and Vandy in their first 7 games.

2023 has played only one rent a win.

Forget Florida St. already. Game had no impact on us regarding CFP. It’s the last Ole Piss drive that has us against the wall. Still just keep winning and we can get there (little help needed) but just keep winning.

JD has good WRs, but he doesn’t have the weapons Burrow had. The Ole Miss game is different without a few drops. Same with FSU. Not saying we would have beat FSU without the drops, but it’s a different game. I’m not taking away anything from Burrow bc he’s the GOAT, but it’s unfair to compare anyone to Burrow.

It absolutely sucked. But if we’re talking fine margins comparing this offense to 2019, it had a double digit lead heading into the second half of Florida season state and proceeded to score 7 points and have a turnover in the second half.

And Ole Miss had a two point lead with 4 min left and couldn’t close it out.

Defense sucked in both but if we’re doing 2019 comparisons then those two instances are relevant.

In a vacuum yeah this offense is outstanding and I love it. Just contributing to an academic comparison

Vanderbilt put up 38 points in 2019.

The 2019 defense wasn’t the 2000 Baltimore Ravens.

Agreed, and offense did enough to win every game. Even in games where the defense couldn’t get a stop in the second half.

This years offense is remarkable, and arguably getting even better. But in 2019 we did it against like 8 top 10 teams. The sec just isn’t the same this year and this offense only showed up for a half against the only really good team we’ve played. Again, not to take anything away from the current guys. They are studs. But the comparisons are actually pretty silly.

This is strictly a comparison through each team’s first 7 games

The first 7 games in 2019 were played against:

Georgia Southern
Texas
Northwestern State
Vandy
Utah State
Florida
Miss State

The 2023 team has played against much better teams through 7 games than the 2019 did

I know OP was comparing 2019 to this season, and as others have pointed out, it’s not apples to apples.

I do agree that the play calling at end of Ole Miss was mind boggling. I haven’t chimed in a lot about it, but was ridiculous. And maybe cost us the game.

That said, the only thing holding this team up is the offense. Being perfect shouldn’t be the standard.

That’s probably my biggest takeaway and posters on this board are ready to pounce for failed offense - when in complete honesty, if our defense didn’t suck we’d be undefeated right now.

Can't. Won't. LSU should have won last year. The defense fell apart this year.

I detest FSU and want them to stumble a couple of times this year but no other teams are stepping up to the plate.

I would love to see LSU play them in a bowl this year to exact some revenge.

If Lacy played against FSU like he did tonight.......LSU wins that game hands down.
