That is how the SEC determines who wins the division...that does not apply to the selection committee. Quality wins vs bad loses.

Of course it does.
Bama wouldn’t jump Texas because of their loss to Texas.
In the scenario where Alabama wins the SEC, yes, they would be conference champs (just like Texas) and have the one loss (just like Texas) but the difference is their one loss is to the team that is ranked higher than them.
