Not sure how you measure “plus/minus” stat like basketball or hockey but as good as I think he may potentially hit, his fielding is dismal. Not just how it directly affects the particular play it also has to be a downer to other 8 guys on the field. Does Guidry even take BP or fielding drills. I’m afraid Brasswel is not even an average SEC shortstop I have friend from SC who told me Brasswell has issues

It’s a shame Johnson didn’t consult your friend before he recruited him

Brasswell had very few defensive issues before this year so I am not sure what your friend is talking about?

I was excited when we signed Guidry and got him to campus based on his lofty ranking. I never saw him in high school. He ended up being a lot smaller than I thought he’d be. He’s firey but has Milazzo power in his limited at bats and he likely hasn’t been practiced at shortstop. He’ll never be an every day starter at LSU unfortunately.

More importantly how is his defense? Braswell is a joke and I’m just not sure Kucherak is ready.

What makes you think Guidry is any more ready than Kucherak?

I’m not sure he played a ton of innings even tho I know he played in 51 games last year.

I keep reading articles along the lines of this when talking about him transferring here. “Braswell started 37 games for Mark Kingston at South Carolina the last two seasons and a Freshman All-SEC pick in 2022. He had 23 RBIs last season”

Braswell is no Ozzie Smith or even Hal Hughes but he is consistent making errors pressure playing shortstop at LSU is what it is .

Listening to CJJ's postgame comments, we can pick up two messages:
1. He's officially evaluating alternative options at SS outside of Braswell, so I'd be very surprised if Braswell starts at SS the next game.
2. We have very few options and close to non experience at SS outside of Braswell, and he wished that we'd have had the opportunity to play more young players at SS up to this point.

So to sum it up...we are f*cked at SS unless some young guns miraculously figure things out very very quickly.

You mean the year of practice in which he struggled so much that they moved him to being a full time pitcher? Think about that for a second. Think about how thin we are at SS and Guidry wasn’t even good enough to have him practicing there during the spring.

Seems I remember that Mainieri recruited a lot of Shortstops and played them all over.

We have 2 years of data on Braswell. Not sure why people were expecting unrealistic things from him just by putting an LSU jersey on.

LSU should be very active in the portal every year but taking other team’s top players not their project players. (Little, Braswell)

They moved him to pitcher because the team was in crisis. We had 4 blown arms…….instead of shitting on him maybe realize what he sacrificed to win a championship! He was never developed as an infielder because of the experience in front of him AND we desperately needed pitchers!
I would bet both my hands CJJ regrets not developing him. He thought he had a lock down shortstop transfer.

That’s because almost every high school’s best player is either the shortstop or has played short stop. Doesn’t mean that’s where they’ll play in college.

SS is only 1 of our issues. It doesn't look good for us this year unfortunately.
