Playing Alex Milazzo at catcher won’t get much press, but was genius

I understand Travinski was hurt, so the decision to play Milazzo was an easy one, but it was crucial.
Trav lets too many balls get by him, and in these tight games, we couldn’t afford to give up a run on a passed ball.
Sure Trav hits bombs, but with the wind blowing in, Millazzo was the better choice.

I’m not sure how “hurt” he was.

It was noted on the board several times. We went defense heavy the past games and with the variables and conditions at play, it is the right move.

His defense has been great behind the plate. He blocks everything and frames the ball well. That tag at home was nails. I hope he gets one solid rip at the plate in the final.

The way y’all talk travinski was letting every other ball past him. I don’t remember him being that much of a liability. Hell Milazzo let some get past him tonight but no one is making a post about it.

Milazzo is the most under appreciated player by our fans. Dude is a warrior. His hitting has improved and he is elite defensively.

This specifically hasn’t been discussed enough though. Obviously his stops have been excellent, but he may have gotten us a handful of big strikes on close pitches.

If you really feel this way, then I’ve got nothing for you.

Milazzo looks about as bad as Thompson at the plate most of the time.. I was worried those two being automatic outs every time through would bite us..

The last 3-5 games travinski was averaging a pass ball a game for the most part.

A calming and encouraging presence, impossible to measure what that does for those pitchers.

He also had to execute his end of the bunt play. Morgan made a historic play but Milazzo had to execute to finish it off.

I think it has to do more with the umps we have had the last 2 games but that’s just my opinion.

Milazzo is the kind of player that quietly spends 15 years on an MLB roster.

Man I really don’t want to trash Trav, but he needs so much work as a catcher. It’s not even as much about how many strikes Alex might get you, it’s more how many you don’t lose because Hayden is stabbing at balls and dropping borderline pitches. You cannot convince me pitchers just aren’t significantly more confident when Alex is back there. Having said that I hope Hayden gets a few AB’s and rakes if he does.

The mouth breathers here won’t give CJJ credit though.
