What’s the feeling on the net effect of all of the defensive hires?

It seems like it’s going in a great direction. But I’m an optimist when it comes to LSU football.

Wait and see for me. But i like that they are young energetic guys. It's crazy that our LB coach has more DC experience than our DC though.

More than anything, there seemed to be a COMPLETE disconnect between the coaches and players on defense last year. Either the players weren't absorbing the coaching and/or didn't trust the staff. Or, whatever the staff was teaching them simply wasn't getting through. It's been quite a while since we've seen an LSU defense so completely lost.

That being the case, I think the first quality O looked for were guys who could earn the trust of the players and make sure the players understood what they are being asked to do. Simply knowing their assignments would have made a HUGE difference last year.

IMO, NOTHING about the new hires are terribly exciting or give a ton of confidence on face value. But it is unfair to say the hires are "terrible" before the new staff even coaches a game.

I expect a steep learning curve, mistakes and missed assignments early on, but the players will be in shape and motivated and get better as the season progresses.

I like surrounding the inexperience with the experience. Let's just hope they all gel really well. LFG! Excited to see the on field results.

couldn't agree more... after the Saints DL coach stayed in the nfl, i was pulling for Glenn Schumann. Great recruiter, youth, high football iq were the main positives.
Was hoping for Joyner as DL, but Carter should be good and hopefully Christian L. is still on staff, because he has been helping w Shemar Stewart, 5* DE from FL LINK /, and the other top DL recruits for 2022 and beyond.

Carter is really going to help in recruiting as well as D-Line play.

He can use himself as an example of where all these kids want to get to. He can speak from a position of recent NFL experience and knows the level of work you must put in, to not only play in the NFL but excel in it.

I really wish we didn't play Chip Kelly's offense first

huge home run hires on both offense and defense, but will need time to gel. In general great hires but will take time to build the player personnel up as well to where we need to be. Shows how much top young up and coming coaches want to be a part of LSU and the Orgeron coaching tree and recruiting should really be bolstered as well. Love the positivity that is coming out of this and the continued upward progression of the program.

This mirrors my thinking... I would also add with the limited experience on Calling a game that could provide some interesting moments. Conversely, because of the limited play calling there is less material for any analyst to figure out tendencies...

That our defense was lacking the intimidation factor and they played lazy?

Our LB coach also has more coordinator experience than our head coach.

Or one that makes great hires to improve his staff....keep trying, though.
