If they truly think Penix is a franchise qb it was a great move. They have the money to pay cousins for a couple years. Take some cracks at getting good qb play now and in the future. If nothing else you need good okay to see if Pitts,London, etc are worth paying in the future.

Not like you’re in a juggernaut division. Who cares if it’s slightly less efficient for a year or two.

The money would be better allocated to paying for some defense if you think Penix is a franchise QB.
If you think Penix is a franchise QB you sign a bridge QB for a couple years not a guy for 4 yrs 180.

In a vacuum sure. But if they end up getting good qb play from both of them nobody is going to give a shite long term. Seems like they’re hedging and they’ll be able to get off of cousins deal in 2 years if Penix is working out.

Kyle McCord will be one of the top QB prospects in 2025.

Sometimes you get a Peyton Manning, Caleb Williams, Bryce Young, Matt Leinart or Brady Quinn who is hyped up as a sophomore or junior and is “the next big QB”.

More often than not though, you get a Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray, Jordan Love, Patrick Mahomes or Jared Goff that wasn’t necessarily thought to be a top 10 pick the year before.

Trust me, there will be at least three QBs that become big prospects next year.

A few others will show up on the radar with their performances this fall.

Weakest year for QB prospects without a doubt.

Yeah he’s so great in fact, that after seeing what he could do for them as the starting QB for a season, Ohio State told him to frick off

They can’t play 2 QBs and they will most certainly care in the “long run” when they have holes in the roster because they paid 2 QBs.

When you are a hardware store you can buy lumber futures as a hedge against price swings, it doesn’t really work in football and Cousins dead cap number is $57M in 2026 AND 2027.

You guys are getting too caught up in the 4 years.

It's 2 years guaranteed w/an option for a 3rd. The 4th year is a dummy year to help w/the cap number. Cousins will never see that 4th year, and possibly not even the 3rd.

It's for all intents and purposes a 2 year deal w/an option for a 3rd.

Carson Beck is going to be up in the top-5 when all is said and done IMO.

Yeah guy on ESPN explained that it's basically a 2yr/100m deal... if you look at it that way 50m about the going rate for a competent QB

What you aren't understanding is that the most valuable years of a QB's career are the years he is on his rookie contract, and the Falcons are freely throwing away AT LEAST two of those years on a 24 year old QB who is basically a less accurate Tua with a stronger arm.

They're basically going to get to see him play for one season before they have to decide on his fifth year option. That is asinine. The rookie wage scale changed everything about team building and the dumbass Falcons are the last ones to realize it, as usual.

The "option" is keeping him or have 25 mil of dead money on the cap if you cut him after the 2nd yr. Even if they cut him they'll still be paying over 30 mil for the QB position even when he's gone.
