It's been systematic strategy at WM since the late 90s to hold kids back. They never win Jack shite before they started doing that en mass. I know this first hand from a former player

I am talking about just the matchup with Barbe this week. Lots of people wanting the upset.

Point is you're all going to love him and cheer for him in The Box.

I said his name on the last page. Doesn’t change the fact he is older than some SRs.

Doesn’t matter much in college but it sure does in HS

Wait is that true? No way he will be eligible as a senior right? He would be 19.5 playing high school baseball

If you have a kid on the borderline that can go either way, why would you choose to not hold back?
I agree with this. May-September birthdays I get why you would think about holding back

But turning 19 at the beginning of your senior year is nuts. You weren’t borderline. You would still have been one of the older ones in the class before…

you are not supposed to be eligible if you turn 19 before senior year

i do agree kids turning 19 before jan of senior year is a little much but i also get why parents do it and overall think its a good thing if you have a household that has good parents to provide an extra year of guidance for the kid before making life-altering decisions.

i get why some have a problem with it. but if you graduate before turning 18, you parents did you a disservice, not from a sports standpoint, but from a life standpoint imo.

and i say that but my oldest is only going to turn 18 a few days before graduation. Could have held him back but made the decision based on what is best for him. Which is kind of my point, just blanket criticism of parents and kids without knowing why they made the decision to hold someone back. many times there are reasons outside of school or sports.

I know in the past WM has abused this system and totally get why people are pissy about it.

The kid we are talking about will turn 19 around November his senior year. So that’s eligible but man that’s old

I turned 18 in November of my senior year and I was one of the older ones in my class

Fair enough but I think people are just sick of schools who have systematically ‘cheated’ (or bent the rules, however you wanna try to justify it) the system for years.

im sure. if i wasnt a fan of barbe i would be pulling for the upset too.

and as i have said all year....barbe is not unbeatable by any means. This is prolly Glens best coaching job and this team is one of the scrappiest he has had. I do not expect them to win state this year. Been saying that for last 6-8 weeks. just too many things have went wrong on the year. But they have the talent to beat anyone any given day.

Cutoff is September 1st. I turned 18 a month before graduating. My kids just turned 18 and will graduate next week.

ETA: The LHSAA outlawed holding back once a kid entered 6th grade a long time ago. Used to be held back in 8th grade. OCS had a program called 8+ just for this. Everyone did it, some more than others. My mom quickly overruled my Dad on that one.
