Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the ACC the only conference with a basketball tourney back in the day? Then, other conferences started holding one for the TV money and exposure.
I wonder if the small conferences make enough from the tournament to make up for more money if they win a game in the NCAA s.

If the team was really deserving enough all season, they’d get an at-large bid

Not in the Southland, or any other 1 bid league. That's why the rule needs to be changed.

Every league is a 1 bid league. Half the field is at-large bids

Not the Southland. The NCAA has to make sure half a dozen Pac, Big, Big 12, and SEC teams get in.

A quick glance at Mcneese’s schedule shows they went 1-10 against teams from those conferences.

0-10 vs RPI top 25, 2-10 vs RPI top 50

18-18 non-conference record

Maybe if yall had actually beaten a few decent teams all year, you’d be in a better position for an at-large bid

While that's a good point, I have a hard time buying into it when all 13 SEC teams made it (only 1 conference tournament champion too, remember?).

Yall go ahead and keep down voting my facts tho, lol.

Cleveland State, 22-24 record.
Southeast Missouri State, 28-24 record.
Northern Colorado, 27-24 record.

All in NCAA tournament.

40 win and Southland Conference regular season champion McNeese left out.

But yep, this system of having conference tournament champions receive the auto bid is totally fine. Nothing to see here. Just move along (oh, but by all means down vote this post first).

Are conferences required to have tourneys? I could have sworn back in the day some conferences did just send their regular season winner. At least in basketball, not sure about baseball.
Boils down to money generated by tourney I think.

All 13 teams making it is a bit much. But the bottom 3 were 22-6, 26-6, and 24-8 in non-conference games.

Mcneese was 18-18 out of conference. If you play in a weak conference, then you don’t have room to complain about being left out if you couldn’t win non-conference games. SEC is stacked and even the bottom feeders were winning 75-80% of their non-conference games

This. McNeese Softball is getting close to taking that next step. I am a fan and would love for them to have gotten at-large bid.

They are not afraid to play anyone. However, they need to be more competitive against that upper tier to have had a stronger argument for at-large.
