My dad played in the quarterfinals against them. They got their arse beat. I think all 9 starters signed scholarships

1982 and 1983 NISH they killed some giants in post season their run in 70s through early 80s was Barbe like

NISH became the largest school in the state with only 3 classes, 10-12, with a separate FR school that had 1400 kids

2 schools now with one being Westgate, and both were 5A at inception.

Back in late 70s thru late '80s, the principals were the old coaches. There was an emphasis on sports. That all changed pretty much after Amedee's one year, and then the eventual divide finished it off

You will never see a run of 5 out of 10 State champions from NI again

Barbe from last year went 39-1. Scoring 355 runs and only allowing 40.

Half their games were shutouts. Doubt there is a better team than Barbe 2023.

I agree 100%. Just to show you how dumb it is for baseball to play a single game, that Barbe team was dominated for 6 1/3 in the championship game. West Monroe was up the entire time and down to 2 outs in the 7th before pulling the starter. Barbe hit a grand slam and added several more to win decisively.

Not at the level of this recent catholic team and some barbe teams.
But at a small school level 1999 Teurlings Catholic deserves a mention.
2A champs that went 29-2 and outscored the opposition 350ish to around 60.
Heck in the playoffs they outscored teams 75-3.
They probably win 5A that year.
They were that good.

Catholic had to resort to stealing a Central coach to win a state championship

Probably the Jesuit teams from 1960 or 1980 that were State Champs and American Legion National Champs.

The thread title is asking the best team ever, not the most dominant.

Hard to believe a team from the 60s being as good as a team that has played travel ball year round their entire lives.

Catholic played a national schedule

They also played 3 games agaisnt the public 5 a champ

Taking a look at barbe from last year they played zero out of state teams and did not play the private 5a champ. Not every schedule is the same….

That was Brian West's West Monroe team. Not saying they couldn't win, but they would have faced 98 to do so.

If Catholic 2024 would play Barbe 2023 in a best 2/3 series.... it would be one hell of a series. I'm not sure there is a better matchup than these two.

Barbe people will argue Barbe is better.

Catholic people will argue Catholic is better.

If only we could settle it on the field.

I think the biggest difference is Schmidt. Barbe 2023 didn’t have that. Only a handful of Louisiana high school teams ever have had that

It’s a good question. How many times has Louisiana had a pitcher drafted in the 1st round out of high school

ETA: I just checked. Only 4 times in the history of Louisiana has a high school pitcher been selected in the 1st round. Most recent is 1996

No need in 2024 since Catholic won 3 vs Non-Select Div. 1 champion, West Monroe.

West was in some kind of supplemental round between the first and second in 99.

Blake Johnson IIRC went in the supplemental first round back in 2005 maybe? PBS had some insane teams.

they had victorian who would was a better pitcher than schmidt last year and had been throughout HS

i dunno who would win btw. just pointing that out

and ftr the reason teams like barbe, WM and even catholic didnt play huge national schedules before this year was because the LHSAA wasnt allowing out of state games to count towards power points. that all changed this year and is why you saw Catholic, Barbe, and Sam Houston suddenly jump in these big national tournaments.

and FTR Barbe played the much harder national teams in flower mound and img.
