Matt Corral named starter for the Birmingham Stallions

Last month former Ole Miss standout quarterback Matt Corral put pen to paper to sign with the United Football League's Birmingham Stallions. The signing marked his return to professional football as he was away from the National Football League for the majority of his sophomore season in 2023.
Now, just over a month later, he's also back to being a starting signal-caller.
Thursday night the Stallions publicly announced that Corral would be the team's season-opening starter this Saturday (Mar. 30). The 25-year-old quarterback was not guaranteed to be the team's starter when initially signed. He had to beat out both J'Mar Smith and Adrian Martinez for the starting gig.
Corral is now set to lead the Stallions in Texas, against the Arlington Renegades on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT at Choctaw Stadium.
Though the former Rebel appeared to be missing in action at various points last fall, the Stallions' head coach is not worried about Corral's commitment to the team.
"I had some great conversations with Matt before we ever signed as we were in the recruiting process in free agency," Stallions' head coach Skip Holtz previously said of Corral following the signing. "And we were on the phone and we were visiting, that was one of the questions I wanted answered: 'What's the commitment level here? Why did things happen in the past the way they happened, and what's going to change moving forward, why are we not going to be in that situation again?'
"But I felt really comfortable in talking with him, and hearing him explain his situation, take ownership for some of the things he could've done better, and why he made the decisions he did and why he's excited about continuing to play."

I’m sad that GOAT McGough won’t be QB for the Stallions this season.

Anyone who uses college descriptors outside of actual college cannot be taken seriously.

Can he come back to Tech?

Panthers gave up on him too quick.

J’Mar Smith - he was a hell of a USFL QB.
Corral has real NFL potential….just goes to show how tough it is to land on an nfl roster and stick.

That's two time defending champion Stallions.

I guess I’m a Stallions fan now.

I remember a few posters on Saints Talk melting that the Saints didn't draft him because he could have been Brees' replacement that would be able to lead the Saints for the next 2 decades.

Which one, the Boston version, the New Orleans or Portland version?

The “New Orleans but based out of Birmingham” version

He was fun to watch, but one can't blame him for taking the NFL contract. Third-string for the Packers pays way more than being a starter for the Stallions.

I am adopting the Stallions as my team since our Breakers are no more. Game about to kickoff on Fox

Dallas nearly broke the opening kickoff for a TD. Seems like decent crowd there. definitely a plus that the combined league will play all at home stadiums with fans
