to be fair... the majority of college athletes probably werent good enough for the side deals of the day.

now if were singling out athletes good enough for the heisman; thats different.

You could argue that Southern Cal had a competitive advantage with the side benefits, but the Heisman is an individual award.

He made a bunch of white haired bowl executives and ADs tens of millions who otherwise are worth 1% of that in a legal system.

Reggie was the star on that field.

The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding football player in the nation. Anybody who watched college football that year and has half a brain and quarter of an eye would say that Reggie was far and away the most outstanding player.
