This was my thought as well after watching the 1st episode.
Thankfully it's not a big CGI show. The boats aren't so bad imo, but this is 10 years old now so it's getting a little dated as far as CGI goes. But was definitely on the good quality side for it's time and budget. It's not a CW show or Wheel of Time bad.
Overall the series has really good acting. Charles Vane's character took me some time to get used to because his deep voice is just weird and he did come across as not a great actor. But the deep voice distraction wore off for me. The prostitute Max has a really odd voice, I'm not sure what that accent is. But she's hot so I don't mind it.

I remember his stature bothering me a lot when I watched. Like just the way he was built was....off. Hard to explain, but it bugged me constantly. I liked the character though.

Watched E1 tonight. And in hindsight, I get a bit of why it’s a slow start even if it lays out the end goal for the Urca.
Sure there’s violence, action and T&A but you just don’t understand where it’s headed or why.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but Hannah New is the hottest woman on the show.

Just finished E1 before the LSU Baseball game. This is my first rewatch and really looking forward to it. E1 wasn't as slow as I remember first time around. Like others, when I first watched I had to push through some in the beginning.
But knowing now how great the show gets, E1 wasn't really a chore or anything like that this go around. I'll watch E2-E3 probably tomorrow or Monday.
One tidbit that I either forgot or didn't notice before, but Bear McCreary is credited with Music By. Bear McCreary is best known to me for BSG (2004) Music and his take on All Along the Watchtower, which is very prevalent in the show.

I had a different experience. I was staunchly reminded of why I bailed in the first season.
Holding off for just the first three episodes was tough because I know it picks up.

I finished the first episode of season 2 this afternoon and it’s definitely picked up. The first season had its moment's, but if not for this board I would have bailed on it before I got to season 2.
