When they say "a documentary in 2 pieces", what they really mean is two separate documentaries done in two completely different styles. After starting Part 2 I had to pause to make sure I hadn't started some other show by mistake.

Both docs are well done. For Steve Martin fans the first film (a traditional bio-doc) is packed with old sound and video recordings that you've never experienced. The second doc jumps to present day and is recent and current interviews with Martin and a lot of Martin Short as well.

I'm a fan of Martin's films, but his standup was just perfection. His albums are still in rotation on my car audio system.

Just finished up part 2. It’s a really good documentary, both pieces of it are. It’s nice to see a huge celebrity seem so down to earth and not be so overly full of himself. He also opened up a lot more than I thought he would. About his fears, his family life (and lack thereof), his career, etc.

Also liked the way they handled his daughter with the stick figure. That was cool. I never knew he kept some personal things to himself throughout his career, and it’s cool to see he still wants to.

Great doc if you’re any sort of fan of Steve Martin. I bet his stand-up show with Martin Short is hilarious. They just seem like two genuinely funny dudes who genuinely love each other. And they riff off of each other well.

With the little interaction that they showed, it looks like the kid is enjoying a life of dad jokes provided by Steve Martin. What a lucky kid.

If it's even half is funny as Only Murders then it has to be. I'll definitely have to catch both documentaries.

As an aside... dude is a fantastic banjo player... holds his own with Alison Brown.

Yeah he’s really talented in a lot of areas. Writing. Comedy. Music. Magic. Acting. Etc.

The book he’s writing that sort of chronicles his movies in comic form with him providing the commentary seems like it would be a solid read.

One of my favorite lines was Martin Short’s joke about Steve where he says something like “aging into your 70s is a lot easier since you’ve looked like you were 70 since you were 30.”

Agree this was fantastic and well done.

For those asking about the Steve Martin/martin short comedy tour I know it was on Netflix for a while and it’s also fantastic. Not sure if it’s still there but definitely worth a watch if you can find it.
