The follow up to the first part of the series on the crimes surrounding real estate heir and multi-millionaire Bob Durst dropped today on Max. I really enjoyed the first part of this when it aired, and I can’t imagine this one will be as good, but I’m still going to give it a try. Who else is in?

It really is sad his late wife’s family will never get to know what he did with her, or be able to properly lay her to rest. Eternally burn in Hell, Robert Durst, you piece of shite.

I absolutely loved the 1st part. Not sure what more this part will cover, but I'm sure it will be good. Durst was a huge fricking sociopath/psychopath piece of shite, but damn, what an interesting character of a human being. Just a bizarre creature.

Sounds like a good excuse for a rewatch!

I’m struggling to understand what could have possibly been interesting enough (after he basically confessed on camera) to warrant a second season. Loved the first one though

I'm a true crime guy so part one was right up my alley. I rewatched it a year or so ago.

Fell asleep halfway through last nights episode but I'll definitely be watching this. Crazy story.

One thing Robert Durst cannot do... keep his mouth shut. I obviously wanted him to be caught, but he could have gotten away with this if he just shut his mouth.

The prosecutors in his first trial were awful, they looked like a clown show. Even with that I was surprised he wasn't found guilty. Until I watched last night and saw that he is now BFF with one of the jurors. That juror was probably obsessed with durst during the trial and was never going to vote against him.

Do you mean Part 2 is definitely worth watching, or is it still too early to tell?

Agree that there didn't seem to be much left on the cutting room floor after the first go 'round.

I was way late to the party in watching the first version of this, but I loved the Gosling/Dunst movie about it.

Also, for any Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans, I didn't realize how spot-on Armisen's Durst was. Especially the "ok, bye-bye" he ended his convos with.

Maybe just Robert Durst. I could probably just watch him sitting on the couch watching tv and be entertained for a while. Such a strange creature, it'd be like watching some weird zoo animal. But I do think the New Orleans stuff and his death (obviously) were after the 1st season. I don't know if they filmed anything new with him after the 1st season, but they probably had enough footage they didn't use that along with more interviews with people who knew him could make it compelling enough to watch.

The guy who produced it--and is in it as the interviewer/narrator--also produced Capturing the Friedmans and couple of other things, so he's clearly a good filmmaker. I'm sure he's made something good enough to watch, though it was likely much more of a cash grab than that he really just felt like there was more story to tell. I'm sure after Durst died, HBO called him (the producer, Andrew Jarecki) up and said, "Hey, we've got all this extra Durst footage that we never used, now that he's dead, you think if we give you a few million--'YES! Absolutely!!!!'--you could put together a couple of new episodes for a Season 2 to close his story/life out?"

The one thing Robert Durst loves most is talking about Robert Durst.

There was no reason for him to do that documentary, just like there is no reason for him to do this one

Yeah, I never understood what the pitch to him was that he not only agreed to a documentary about him, but to give so much access that it turned into a multi-episode mini tv series instead of a typical 80(ish) minute documentary. Sure, he was obviously a huge narcissist, and like you said, loved him some Robert Durst. But he was clearly intelligent--I just can't believe he lacked the self-awareness to not know just how bad he would come off. Maybe he didn't care. And I can only imagine how much his attorneys tried to talk him out of it. Or maybe not, maybe they made bank on it too.

Well, he's dead, so hard to say 'no.' I'm assuming HBO owns all the original footage and is legally free to do whatever they want to with it. Not sure he has an "estate" at all, much less one that would care enough to protect his image. That toothpaste is out of the tube, may as well milk it for whatever you can.

I haven’t seen this one. But the very short trailer I saw was him interviewing in prison. So not sure if that is just a small snippet, or if it’s all legit jailhouse interviews.

The first episode was pretty good. Showing him on the run as the last episode was being aired where he essentially confesses on the hot mic. I forgot that he was arrested the day before the last episode was aired. The watch party with the family was interesting.

The phone calls between him and his wife are interesting enough for me to watch. We didn't see the real Robert Durst that much in the first one but the calls with his wife show more of what he was like. Him talking about paying for his legal defense and just casually throwing out "1.2" stood out

I've got it on my list, but figured I'd wait for a few episodes to release before committing.
quote:

Robert Durt's murder problems took over our lives in 2015 when The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst miniseries premiered on HBO. For six weeks, we watched Durst explain the details of the multiple murders he was accused of committing with the emotional sincerity of a catatonic liar. Nine years later, director Andrew Jarecki traces Durst's final years after the first season with The Jinx Part Two.

If the first season of The Jinx proved anything, Durst was one of the dumbest criminals ever to walk the Earth. The real estate heir was a suspect in the 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Katie Durst, the 2000 murder of longtime friend Susan Berman, and the 2001 death and dismemberment of his neighbor, Morris Black. He was never charged with the first two and was acquitted of murdering Morris Black in 2003 after claiming he did so in self-defense. He was rich, not in prison, and inexplicably had friends who would do anything for him, including one who became his friend after serving as a juror on the Morris Black murder case. Yet, something in his brain told him to get on camera and incriminate himself for an HBO show.

The Jinx Part Two picks up the Durst story after the March 2015 airing of the Season 1 finale.

As of this writing it looks like there are three available.

Episode 5. "TBD" on May 19
Episode 6. "TBD" on May 26
