props to them first and foremost for selling over 30 million albums coming out of Escatawpa, Mississippi....
but they have a pretty wild story...

IIRC, they were signed by a record label/producer whose sole intention of signing them was to illustrate the point that he could make any bad band famous and/or popular.
Someone else may know the devil details.
ETA: I’m not saying I think they were a bad band, but that was a story I heard. They’re from my era growing up, so they’re alright in my book.

Yeah, Chris’ hillbilly arse crashed a radio interview my band was doing to promote an album release.
Dude stunk like BO and was dipping on mic the entire time.
Edit: but to be fair I think one can draw a line connecting their breakout to that Biloxi rock DJ becoming an A&R for Wind Up which lead to a good rise in Dave Fortman’s producing career and also got us one album from Atomship before they started dying. Goddamn I miss Atomship.

Had a friend who got us backstage at UNO when they played with Fuel. We hung out with them in their dressing room. They were straight up rednecks who were drinking Heineken. No hot women hanging out with them at all.
Fuel completely blew them off the stage. Three Doors Down were one of the most boring bands I’ve seen live. We left halfway through their set & they were the headliner. This had to be around 2000 or 2001.

I performed with them when they played with Tiger Band a few years ago during a halftime show.
Met them during the morning rehearsal and they seemed like regular guys from Mississippi.

They were not a great band, tbh, but they had their 15 Warhol minutes.
In their video I couldn’t help but think”they look like q some dudes from
Mississippi dressing up like rock stars. The video was horribly conceived and directed.

Bass player is in prison for gun charges. Believe he previously killed someone while driving fricked up

3 Bores Down... I saw that tour. Fuel did blow them away. Brett Scallions was a rockstar at the time and put on a rock show. Surprised me because my only knowledge of them at the time was the music video for "In My Hands" and I kinda sorta hated that song.
Oleander was the opener and I preferred them to either of the others.
