Pissed off that both St. Paul & The Broken Bones are sold out already.

Once saw St. Paul and the Broken Bones, before they hit it big, open for Dragon Smoke at Tipitinas. Helluva night

I enjoy Tips. It's been a long while, but I've seen these groups there:
Jerry Jeff Walker
Stray Cats
10,000 Maniacs
Cowboy Junkies
Todd Rundgren
They Might Be Giants
Burning Spear
Nighthawks
and of course, The Radiators, Dr. John, Neville Bros.

Saw Pearl Jam in early 1992, right after they were on Saturday Night Live. Eddie Vedder walked across the rafters
I was at that show. He stage dived and was carried to the basketball rim.

Saw Jane's Addiction open for Love and Rockets in '87 and Nine Inch Nails open for the Jesus and Mary Chain in 1990. Saw Alice in Chains open for somebody, but I can't recall. Saw dozens of others as well.

Saw Leo and George with their respective bands for the NOLA Funk Fest reveal show two Saturdays ago. Was great as usual.

All-time favorite shows were the George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic shows between Christmas and New Year. Didn't hurt that often you got to see Dr. John the night before. Some rough weekends there!

Otherwise, Squeeze, Cowboy Junkies, early Indigo Girls, Stanley Jordan, the Smithereens.

Weezer's blue album show, and many other shows at Tips..usually with a pre or post drink at Fat Harry's.

Tipitina just oozes Nawlins..like the old Boston Garden or Fenway.

Some classics but standouts:

- violent femmes 91
- Pearl Jam 92
- pj Harvey 94?- can’t recall exact year
- rage vs the machine 93? (power went out for a bit so an acoustic set materialized)
- fugazi 95
- bad brains early 90s
- Wilco two night stand 2008
- Green Day 94 was fun

Saw Dinosaur Jr. in 1994. My God they were loud. My ears rang for days. Some young girl climbed on top of the amps,

I was at that show.
I also was some young girl who got on stage. But I dove off like a crazy person.
Those were the days. Great show!! Top band for me ever since. They are super talented!!

Me too!! Hindsight I should have went to everything I could. Sucks

So I advise my adult child to go see every band she likes if possible. And if you don’t know the opening act. Listen to them beforehand because you will probably really enjoy them as well.
Sucks ticket prices are so high!!

I loved Tips.. But also the Maple Leaf... Jimmy's Music Club was a great place to see a medium size act... Andy Capp's up stairs...

See, that's one of those things you realize when you get older, but when you're young, it seems daunting to go to shows on your own. God, there were so many great shows I missed when I was in college because none of my close friends were interested in going. I still regret not seeing Sonic Youth/Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Pearl Jam/Smashing Pumpkins/Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lollapalooza 1992. You get older, you realize you can go have a few drinks and see a band by yourself.

True, but to be fair, you're also a lot less likely to have people screwing with you or trying to start a fight once you're out of your teens/earl 20's and start to look "old." And you can probably have a couple drinks without getting wasted. All in all, safety in numbers becomes less important.

I'd put Kenny's Key West out there too.

Saw both Warrant and Cinderella there. Front row center for both. Great shows.

I spent many a night at Tip's back in the day. Leaving out the countless great local acts, the top of mind standouts are:

The Smithereens
The Church
Cracker
Wilco
Son Volt
Scruffy the Cat

Don't forget peak Social Distortion was on the bill! I believe the last time Sonic Youth played NOLA because they had their gear stolen
