I had never heard of this but it sounds like fun. It is held at race tracks all over the country. I see that it will be at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham on the weekend of February 3rd. Basically it is a real race but you can't have more than $500 invested in your car.
Not exactly Ford vs Ferrari
Vehicle Eligibility: Entry limited to mass-produced, four-wheeled vehicles legal for U.S. highway use at the time of their manufacture. Vehicles must be acquired and prepared for a maximum of $500 (exclusive of safety gear)

Going to be in NOLA in March.

A buddy of mine did a while back. He drove a '97 Camry that he bought from his aunt for $100.
ETA: The one at Barber.
And if you've never been to Barber, it is well worth the visit. Only around a third of his collection is ever on display at any given time. I've been maybe a dozen times over the years, and I've always seen something different. Plus, just checking out the building is cool. He had it designed and built to withstand a Cat. 5 hurricane.

Yep, it was fun. That was like 15 years ago, so not sure what’s changed.

If I carjack a car to enter it in the race, does that qualify as putting less than $500 into it?

I was there last week. They have a display of ww2 vehicles/motorcycles. Cool as hell.

They did it on the US version of Top Gear.

They need to incorporate a figure 8 track entering and exiting the pits

No, but I would love to.

I have, and I’m still sour over it.

Thanks for the heads up. Called my Dad and we're going this weekend.
