Met a guy from SEAL Team 10. Super laid back and very nice.

There's bar/restaurant in Tucson called The Trident that's owned by an ex-SEAL. Had one of our company big wigs come into town and said he stopped in there for a drink. Apparently it was the same night that some active SEALs were having a graduation of some sort. Said the public was allowed to stay but they locked the doors at 9:00 pm and no one was allowed in or out until 5:00 am. Apparently it got pretty rowdy.

I'll play......

I'm a retired sub sailor and I've had the opportunity to work/train with a few of them, conducted support ops with some, and 'play games' with them at times (SeALs and 1st SOG guys, never worked with any AF PJ's).

They ARE professional and conduct themselves that way while 'on the clock'. They take care of business and will do so by 'cheating', playing 'unfairly', and laugh at ya afterwards. Fun and easy going 'off the clock'....very laid back.

What struck me as 'funny' is most of 'em are not big, huge, muscle-bound freaks of nature, but very ordinary looking.... unremarkable in most aspects. But you don't wanna be their target. They are much more 'badass' than you think with regard to their ability to 'take care of business'

Movies, books, news stuff.....it dosnt matter. They are much more badass in reality than anything you see or read about.

I know a guy that washed out of BUDS and he said if you're over something like 6'2", BUDS is extremely difficult to complete. Said it really favors the medium-smaller guys.

The SEAL area of SOCNET.com has a thread called "phoney SEAL check" were you can submit a name to verify if a person was actually a SEAL. Probably 99.9% of the names submitted turn out to have never been SEALS, even for people that knew the person extremely well such as a family members, inlaws, coworkers. Most were actually in the Navy, but all of the books and movies portraying SEALs over the last 20 years seems to have caused them to amp up their actual service.

Yes, because they are navy and heavily involve swimming and water. Plus, the guys that are more triathlon type of shape then powerlifting will obviously have an easier time. You also have to be fairly intelligent, they not only have to be mentally tough enough and in great physical shape but be smart enough to become experts in their fields.

There are a little over 1,000 active Seals at any given time. I don't know the average time someone is a Seal probably 4-6 years. So it's not like there are only 50 of them and they are super rare.

I've met some Seals, but I did work for a guy that was in the Mob from New Orleans. He was obviously mob and had an arrest for racketeering.

I know 4 that grew up in BR that are now 32-38 years old, so really not that hard to imagine others in the area would know some as well.

I know two distantly, grandsons of a former teacher of mine. Both are pretty good athletes-one walked on in football at LSU, the other at ULM. Other than that, not much that would make you single them out of a crowd. I think one is out of the Navy now, not sure about the other one.

A guy who grew up in my neighborhood went through he Q course at age 41. Wrap your mind around that. He had been a Ranger back in the day, got out, and always regretted it. He walked away from an architecture practice to try out for SF, and made it.

Played for my Damneck Naval Ball team back in the 90's and would play a SEAL team twice a season. Shitty, horrendous players lol but out ran us up and down the court every time. Shits load of stamina zero basketball skills. Great guys though. Never bragged like the fricking useless navy divers. Wanna be SEALS but couldn't hack it.

I know (3). All graduated from Central High School, two the same year I did.

First one went into the Navy in 2000 right after we graduated. He wrestled in high school, but wasn't a big guy or super muscular. He did around 8 years and got out. Tried working around here for a few months, but new this place and a 9-5 job wasn't for him. Last thing I heard from mutual friends was that he went back in and made it to an elite Seal unit. I am assuming ST6, as his brothers have confirmed that he was involved in the mission to recover the ship captain taken hostage a few years back.

Second one went in enlisted after getting a degree from SLU. He was always a big, naturally built, strong athlete. Type of guy you would look at and immediately agree that you could believe he was a Seal. Last I have heard, he did (4) years and decided to get out due to having a young family. He now works at a plant in the area.

Third one is the little brother of number one. He got rolled back in BUDS due to an injury, but made it the second time. He was always a wild, partying kind of guy but tough as fricking nails. He is still in I believe.

It certainly is. I work in a business where we deal exclusively with veterans and I have met 2 seals. I had no idea they were so prevalent.

Well, to be fair, if you're joining SpecOps (SEALs, MARSOC/RAIDERS, etc.) you're probably a little crazy to begin with haha. Hell, if you're infantry, you're probably a little crazy, too.
