They have all lost enrollment, some more than others. Dominican hasn't fallen as much as others.

Not true, Chapelle has had their highest incoming classes since 2001 in the past 4 years.

This has not been my experience. Have 2 at Mount Carmel currently and they are thriving and loving it. Didn't really care where they chose to go to school but have been pleasantly surprised with MCA. They have an independent study period baked into the schedule each day which allows students to work on homework, see faculty with questions/problems/etc. And their college counseling engages early with some particularly good guidance. Can't speak to Chapelle's current program.

I would suggest that you let your daughter lead on this. Please don't steer her to a specific school for your reasons...it's her choice. If she's more comfortable at one school over the other, listen.

I, on the other hand, regret not being more hands on and forceful in guiding a child who did not want to make the decision for herself. It is kid dependent.

My oldest daughter is in 8th at Chapelle and she loves it. Shes doing really well with her grades and plays 2 different sports. No complaints here. I’m always getting emails with progress reports so they are very good at making sure they stay on track.

I went to MCA and loved it. 10 years ago when I was deciding to where to go, my parents told me Chapelle was not an option and I essentially chose between Dominican and MCA. However, Chapelle has gotten much better in the last 5 years. They got a new principal who revamped the school.

If this was 5-10 years ago, I would say push her towards Mount Carmel, but now let her decide. Mount Carmel was a great school, I made friends I still have today and I felt prepared for LSU bc of MCA. I think Mount Carmel still has the better reputation in New Orleans but MCA and Chapelle are both good schools.

Both are good schools, let your daughter go where she wants to go…

You sound like one of those moms that are proud to have a J on the back of their SUV…

I know quite a few doctors who were Chapelle grads.

Where are you closer to?

They’re both good schools - and I’m not biased.

Mt Carmel is kind of weak, but it is waaay better than Chapelle. I have had nieces and grandnieces go to Chapelle, and I’ve had to tutor them so they could do remedial math in college. Disgraceful high school, imo.

true but between the choices if I’d go with the one closest

My cousins that went to chapelle do a lot better than the ones that went to my Carmel, but that might be personalities

Certainly a valid viewpoint, it's a fine line to be walked. Did your school choice work out, or did she decide at some point that she wanted a change? If either of my girls came to me said "I want out", out they would have been.

Within two years, five of them had transferred from Mt. Carmel to Chappelle.

Any insight as to why?

10+ years ago this would have been an easy decision but Chapelle has made significant strides and is obviously a much harder decision now. Let your daughter choose after visiting the school or going to the open houses.

Sounds like you're pissed at Chapelle for their academic performance.
