If you travel across the Third World outside of established tourist areas, you're taking your life in your hands.
The husband, a Spaniard, and his wife, from Brazil, ran a social media account detailing their motorcycle travels across the world. 7 Indian men beat them, robbed them, and then gang-raped the wife.
The incident is raising questions about the levels of sexual assault in India, with foreigners noting that they found the country especially dangerous for women.

The alleged gang rape of a tourist with Brazilian-Spanish dual nationality in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has led to outrage.
The 28-year-old woman and her husband, who were on a motorbike tour, had stopped for the night in Dumki district when the alleged attack took place.
Police say that they have arrested four men and are searching for three more.
The identities of the men, who are also accused of beating the woman's partner, have not been disclosed yet.
The incident is raising questions about the levels of sexual assault in India, with foreigners noting that they found the country especially dangerous for women.

Over the weekend, several women shared their stories of dealing with unwanted sexual attention while travelling in India.
The chief of India's National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma, also sparked criticism after she responded to a post from a US journalist who wrote that while India was one of his favourite places, "the level of sexual aggression" he witnessed while living in the country was "unlike anywhere else I have ever been". He also gave a couple of examples of sexual assault faced by women he knew.
"Did you ever report the incident to police?" Ms Sharma wrote. "If not then you are totally an irresponsible person. Writing only on social media and defaming whole country is not good choice."
The response led to an outpouring of criticism from people on social media.

India is infamous for rapey tendencies, even in urban areas, including of kids.

What a surprise…all these SJW’s in US should go to almost literally every other country in the world and see what happens…

That’s terrible. Good that they arrested several of them. What types of punishment does India dole out for crimes like these? I suspect nothing too harsh if this kind of thing is relatively normal..?

I went to India in 2013. The year prior there was a horrible rape of a woman on a bus in Delhi.
After that, India changed the law to allow the death penalty.

Investigations often sort of disappear. Punishment is seemingly only meted out in a significant manner if the incident gets western press exposure. I won't link you the DuckDuckGo results, but here is an example of how justice works there:
quote:
Ten years ago when a 19-year-old Delhi woman was found gang raped and murdered in the fields of the neighbouring state of Haryana, it was described as a "rarest of rare" case.
Indians were shocked by news reports which detailed the brutality to which the teenager - named Anamika in court documents as her real name could not be revealed under Indian law - had been subjected.
Three men, arrested for the crime, were found guilty and given the death penalty by a trial court in 2014 and the Delhi High Court confirmed the sentences a few months later.
But on Monday, in a stunning reversal, the Indian Supreme Court set the men free, saying there was no "cogent, clinching and clear evidence" that they had committed the crime.

Just terrible. I can't imagine how they felt going through that.

You can tell by the stride of the Yellow Levi's suspect he didn't go worse than 3rd. Confident walk.

Kind of difficult to believe she could. What an awful ordeal to go through.
