If you double your salary, you will more than likely triple the workload and responsibility. Another thing to consider.

140K is not balling in lafayette. It'll get you a spec home in youngsville and maybe help you pull a little tail at corner bar.

140k is probably top 3% in Lafayette per capita but the definition of "baller" is certainly open to interpretation

100% apply for the move. You'll be glad you did it. You can always move back to Thibodaux if you don't like VP. I agree with the people saying to move to Lafayette (or between Lafayette and VP) and commute.

Effective rate would be about 25% for federal and state taxes

Max 401k is 18,000 this year

If you are under 50 years of age. 50 or older can put in an additional $6,000.

You'd probably want to live in Sunset or Grand Coteau. It's pretty close to Lafayette, and it would cut at least a half an hour a day off the commute.

I'd say a south Lafayette to Ville Platte commute would be brutal.

Here is what you do. Ville Platte is 47 minutes from Lafayette. Having live in Thib and Laffy, Laffy beats the shite out of Thib. Get on bumble and tinder with a GPS faker and tap in to all of cajun poon in laffy. It is wonderful here. Little short dark haired women with blue eyes and those accents hnnnnggggg

I commute from Carencro to Baton Rouge. It isn't that bad.

Once again, none of this is baller status. It's living comfortable status. There's a huge difference. My old man is a baller, I live comfortable and make more than the 140K we are talking about. Ballers have 2nd homes and boats and weekend cars that they pay cash for.

Absolutely, I think 140K is comfortable living. Poochie and I obviously disagree on "baller" status.

At 32?

Dude could essentially be debt free with $50k of play cash/year by the time he's 40.

All this will be taken into consideration. If I get it I'm gonna be looking for something cheap. Become debt free. Save some up. Build a nice line of credit. Then build my dream house in bourg.

Yeah if he lives in a trailer and eats nothing but mac n cheese and ramen noodles while driving a pos and never taking vacation or buying anything for himself. Seems feasible, I could see that...
