As a father myself I can only imagine your pain. I think for people with a strong conscience, we tend to blame ourselves for the flaws in our children. And give them all the credit for their successes. And that is really not accurate or healthy.

Your son's problems were not any more your fault than they were his. Keep your faith, and take some solace in the fact that his pain is over.

I have always enjoyed your posts. You are a good man. You have all of our love and prayers.

I am very sorry for your loss. I hope that with time you will have peace and understanding of this terrible tragedy.

As a Dad, I feel as if I fail my son

I've worked in mental health for over 20 years. I believe that this is a normal feeling for you to experience at this time.

I do hope, that as time passes, you come to understand that he had an illness that was fatal. Just like cancer or heart disease. It's very hard for people to fight that fight every single day. Just like cancer, you had no ability to change what happened. Again, I am very sorry. I have 2 sons and I can't imagine the pain of losing one of them.

I've lost a child. There is no getting over it, only a process of learning how to cope in a way that you maintain a healthy life for those that still depend on you.

I encourage you to contact a local support group called Compassionate Friends. It is specifically for parents who have lost children.... regardless of the manner. It really can be helpful
