The cancel culture got me thinking about how most every place in America is named for something or someone from the old times. Most places have some sort of cool historical tale for how it was named. But just about every name has some sort of ties to slavery or the indians. I dont care to discuss the cancel culture so much as i like to hear cool stories about how places got their name. For instance I have no idea what Baton Rouge means and I couldn't find old Orleans on a map of the old world.

My town was named after a guy who made his fortune building cotton gins. The county was named after the local band of Creek Indians.

Montgomery, Alabama was named after a general in the continental army. He was an Irishman who led an invasion of Quebec. There is a statue of him outside the courthouse that looks just like Elvis (with a sword).

A boundary marker so stained by the blood of public torture and executions of captured rival gang members that 100’s of years later, the psychic echoes of the horrors still ebb and flow in a continuation of the cycle of violence that it seems destined to never cease.

There is nothing new, under the sun.

Pine trees. Lots and lots of pine trees.

Ask me what my high school mascot is named for (it's my screen name). I'm very proud of them for not giving in to cancel culture so far.

My hometown was named after a French military leader who had a lot of fame during the French Revolution. And he was supposably short.
