It'll be the Alton Sterling Memorial Library.

How many buildings are named for "racists" in your opinion?

You give in on a small thing like the library name to appease them then tell them to get fricked when they “demand” something bigger down the road.

Why did Dew Brees cave so quickly?

Where did the Gator Bait thing come from so quickly?

Why did the SEC and NCAA all of a sudden think it’s time to tell a sovereign state what they must do in regard to their flag?

Why are all these people who were not weeks ago vehemently opposed to kneeling during the anthem all of a sudden taking a knee?

Why is our own military taking a knee? Cops taking a knee?

Why do we hate Christopher Columbus?

Why must we take down all historical monuments, even attacking Lincoln’s?

People have lost their ever loving minds.

Nobody really gives a damn who the library is named after...they needed some things to compromise on and that was an easy one...

No earthly idea. However, this one is a no brainer.

Middleton's family didn't deserve this: he was a 2x war hero and instrumental in the university's history. Just demolish it w/o renaming

I did not read the entire post, but it is simple, the Governor wanted the name changed and the majority of the board was appointed by him. Elections have consequences.

It’s this. Who gives a shite about a physical library in 2020? There was already talk about removing it.

Really? They have computers for students to use that can't afford them. Books to check out for classes so you don't have to buy them. Stay open for a place to study. Are good meeting places for group projects. Have printing stations for people that don't have a printer.

Their computers also have programs on them like CAD that could also be too expensive for a broke college student.

Sound arguments. You should present them to the people who are already planning to remove the library. But be prepared because I bet they have better talking points than you.

They're scared of a long drawn out PR nightmare like what happened at Mizzou and is in the process of happening at UT. They think if they get out ahead of it they can forestall it. Time will tell.

You can go too far the other way and destroy your school like Evergreen did.

How about this? It's racist because of the wealth gap created by white supremacists. Minority students need free access to things a library provides.

Sure, but this library was named after a war hero who wrote something that was probably racist 60 years ago. You know the rules. Everything in there is tainted and must be destroyed, preferably by fire and on live TV.

Never heard of the guy and really don't give a crap what some library is called. What I am trying to wrap my head around is why do so many people get up in arms about taking some racist dude's name off of a building? Maybe it's because I don't give much of a crap but I don't understand why some to take it as such a personal attack.

And for the record, knowing very little about the guy, I'd probably be against removing his name if it were up for a vote or something. I understand the logic if it were some guy that fought against our country but this guy fought for our country (I think). My guess is he was a product of his times more than anything else and it's hard to hold that against him because you would have to hold it against every single human that has lived, ever.
