We’ve always had female dogs for family pets. All of my siblings do too now that we’re all adults.

Best I can tell it originates from a blood feud between my mom and a dog named Duffy they had when they first got married.

She hated that dog and she vowed never to have another male dog in the house.

Your female doodle and my female doodle appear to be clones of each other with the exception of the afraid of the dark thing. After growing up with Weimaraners, Dachtsunds, and having a Maltepoo of our own, she is easily the best dog I have ever had. Nothing comes close and that is compared to all of our friends dogs as well.

I got a bernedoodle. Amazing dog, but she is very alpha. She does get put in her place from time to time from other dogs, which is good. Still the sweetest pup. Very loving.

If neutered, it’s a different story.

Just amazing how many dog owners know absolutely nothing about training a dog, male or female, neutered/spayed or not.

I prefer females because they seem to stick closer and are less likely to run off.

because they don't raise their leg to piss all over everything in the house. Generally they don't chew up shite either. Easier to train, listen better, etc.

Our Aussie did. I think it was because I took her for a walk after I first got her with a friend who had an adult Basset Hound. Otis hiked his leg on every mailbox and telephone pole, and she started doing it too. Sometimes she would nearly fall over trying to pee higher up the pole than some other dog. She was super competitive, and smart.

What difference is it to you?

If that’s their preference, is it invalided if based on antedoctal experiences?

You came to the OT and used “adequate” “empirical” “small sample size” and “perpetuate” but you couldn’t google this question?

You really like people to think you’re smart huh?

I had a male lab break through a wooden fence and get run over on Burbank chasing tail. Swore I’d never get another male and got a female. She’s been great and retired from duck hunting a year ago.

I then got my current male because the males within the breed were suppose to be a bit more protective around the house. He is and I like that.
I got my female to possibly have a breedable dog should she turn out to be a good dog.

So out of 4 dogs, 2 male and 2 female I see minimal difference. My current 2 are different personalities and the female is a bit easier to train so far.

Most people only have a few dogs during their lifetime, so I’m thinking this small sample size greatly skews people’s perceptions of male vs female dogs.
