Any experience using a freshwater trolling motor in saltwater?

I've been gifted a freshwater trolling motor and I want to put it on my jon boat. I intend to set up a cleaning station to run it in Salt Terminator after each use. How long do you think it will last?

You should get several good years of use out of it... I would expect 4-5 years... maybe longer if the Salt Terminator gets used each time.

Mine lasted 14 years of mostly brackish water use before I had to replace it last year. The motor itself was still running; but the bracket system rusted out.
I replaced it with a similar freshwater setup because I may not keep this boat much longer. I don't think occasional saltwater use will hurt it.

I bought a $90 "freshwater" transom mount trolling motor and have used it in saltwater marsh since I bought it four years ago. I hose it off when I flush the motor after every trip. Never had a problem.

They hold up pretty well in my experience, Minn Kota.

it doesn't stay on the water and I wash it when we are done fishing. I wouldn't let salt sit on it

You're fine. I use a fresh water Minn Kota in salt and have no problems at all. Spray it off after every use and corrosion X on the internals once a year or so.

It is going to instantly explode due to the plastic cover not being white with the word saltwater written on it.
J/K not sure there is as much of a difference as the OEM's claim there to be. Never had any issues myself.
