For the record, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo—by FAR the city’s biggest annual event—brings in over 2.5 million people around the same time as Mardi Gras.
This year Houston made the depressing (but wise) choice to call it short, due to the virus.

I wonder why we haven’t seen the same COVID-19 struggle as has NOLA?
Is it yet to come?
I’d be very interested in hearing an epidemiologist’s take on it.

Yea. It’s a shite show. Like many people’s brains. So the TX DPS site days banned from the NewOrleans area. Not all of La. The people on their hotline didn’t even know what the law was or what Abbott’s statement said. So there are shite shows abound. Not just on TD.

It probably has more to do with those outside of LA traveling down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and bringing the virus with them

New Orleanians have always been fatalistic...but you mother frickers can't just follow rules.

NOPD had to break up a second line recently...because you cocksuckers can't follow rules.

Louisiana will experience, perhaps, the largest per capita numbers of deaths in the United States

Because you can't follow fricking rules.

Let's make it even more interesting....

What if you're a Louisiana resident, put boat in on Louisiana side of Toledo Bend and proceed on over to the Texas side to fish? And in said boat was camping gear you proceed to utilize on a Texas side camp ground?? Also in the boat is a bikini clad late 20s-something gal with the coolest most laid back personality ever installed in a woman....but that's a different conversation altogether. Just wanted to let you know she's in the boat. Don't accidentally hook her pretty face.

Then why have Mardi Gras when everything was being canceled? Greed and stupid elected officials elected by a stupid electorate.

Do you also see the irony in your statement? Texas is banning travels from your state just as you should have banned people coming to yours.

But hey, the bars made a profit.

I don't believe that was the case. Mardi Gras date was February 25th. Think the first major event to cancel was ACL fest and that was announced March 6th.

Nothing was being canceled and there weren't any restrictions in place other than travel from China.

Fat Tuesday was Feb 25th. There are parades leading up. The bans, suspensions, and near shutdowns didn't happen until right before St. Patrick's Day. Weeks after Mardi Gras. European travel to the US wasn't suspended until the beginning of March.

Pretty much and the UN is compromised by Chinese influence. You won't see me defend LA gov officials. Dem nor Rep.

Many went off the WHO's announcements. Which reminds me, has the WHO admitted to deceiving the world as China did? They should.

Probably because Mardi Gras, which takes place over a weekend, happened a week before the rodeo, which takes place over 3 weeks, was scheduled to start.

Stay inside means stay inside beep. Its hubris regardless. You didn't stop to get gas? Get food? Nothing?

Also the CDC made their guidelines pretty darn clear. The first major event to go off was mardi gras. That's why SXSW was canceled on march 6th. The tech companies had already pulled out earlier than that. They were all reacting to the CDC's guidelines.

Compare that with the baws who had themed floats all about the virus. You're telling me there wasn't awareness of the issue?

hubris

And they don't exactly wipe too much shite down in NOLA. A little extra seasoning at no charge to you. Laigniappe.

What I'm saying is that there had not previously been any large event cancellations, in which case if there were then yes there should be much more serious scrutiny as to a decision to laissez les bons temps rouler.

So you need confirmation from others before doing the right thing? Here let Texas hold your hand.

I went from one home. To my other home. Walked to my boat. And went out.

Again. What quarantine rule did I break? Who did I come In contact with?

Geez.
I hadn’t seen that.

Coronavirus 'Krewe Da Flu' & walking beers infect Mardi Gras 2020

One group donned HAZMAT suites and were handing out "flu shots" - syringes filled with jello shots.

Eventually you will need gas so eventually you would be, but in your incredibly narrow example the only thing you would have come in contact with is hopefully the fish.

Good thing for those gas pumps on the water that I can pull up, swipe a card, fill up and drive off without seeing another human being.
