Kyiv Warns Situation on Front Will Worsen in May

quote:

The situation for Ukraine on its front line is likely to steadily deteriorate in the coming weeks, Ukraine's head of military intelligence said in an interview published on Monday.

His assessment comes as outgunned and outmanned Ukrainian forces struggle to hold back Russian troops, who have gained ground in recent months and are expected to soon step up their offensive.

"In our opinion, a rather difficult situation awaits us in the near future," Kyrylo Budanov told the BBC's Ukrainian service.

"But it is not catastrophic and we need to understand that. Armageddon will not happen, as many people are now saying," he said.

"But there will be problems starting from mid-May. I am talking about the front in particular... It will be a difficult period in mid-May, early June," Budanov said.

Russia has in recent weeks regularly claimed new gains in eastern Ukraine.

On Monday, Russia's Defense Ministry said its troops had seized the village of Novomykhailivka, some 20 kilometers away from Vuhledar, which Russian forces have been trying to capture.

It announced other gains near the eastern town of Chasiv Yar over the weekend.

Taking control of Chasiv Yar's strategic heights would open the road for Russia to other important towns in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Russian forces want to capture Chasiv Yar by May 9, when the Kremlin marks the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Kyiv has for months struggled with a growing ammunition shortage but that is expected to improve in the coming weeks, with the United States on Saturday finally approving a $61-billion package of military aid to help battle Moscow.

A billion a week is all they need to slowly lose ground to the Russians.

Ha at the OTL losers. That’s why they’re on there and never been in war.

Some of their soldiers have been sitting in the trenches for nearly a year without a rotation. This is not a problem money can solve, they're running out of troops.

As you may have heard, The Moscow Times, an independent news source for over 30 years, has been unjustly branded as a "foreign agent" by the Russian government. This blatant attempt to silence our voice is a direct assault on the integrity of journalism and the values we hold dear.

I'll give you this. It's difficult to know which sources to trust about this conflict. This doesn't help clarify matters.

I genuinely don't have anything against Ukraine defending their lands from an invading force. it should be commended but it should be on their own effort.

this is not your typical proxy war, its a full on conventional fight which requires manufacturing, resources and manpower. in wars body counting doesn't matter. what matters is how many bodies you can throw at an objective and how much ordinance you're willing to use.

anyone who thinks 60 billion dollars will amount to any strategic gain is delusional, and they know this but are unwilling to admit they're wrong.

by the end of May Ukraine will be begging for another 60 billion. I guarantee that.

Ukraine is running out of men to fight. The war in Ukraine hits home with me, sort of. My wife's aunt's 42 year old son-in-law was forced into combat. My wife's family living in Ukraine are Russian speaking, 'Pro Russia' people who've remained quiet about who they support in this war. They wanted the son-in-law to go into hiding and not fight in a war they did not believe in or support.
He refused to hide saying that he would not "hide in the woods" while young teenagers were sent to the front lines of battle,.
He reported that moral was low and many guys were not inspired to fight this battle. Only the leaders and combat veterans were fully committed. He said that many of them were indeed Neo-Nazis and scum of the earth types.
After seeing combat for close to six months, he was killed in a direct hit from a missile strike.
His family is devastated. He leaves behind a wife and two young kids.

When the war began, I figured the Russians would steamroll the Ukrainians. The fact that this war is still going on must mean Russia's military is truly dogshit, because I know the vast majority of money that we've dumped into Ukraine has not been spent on Ukrainian defense. I wonder if ol' Putin is in on the deal and getting paid too?

Ukraine just lost the largest Power Plant in the nation. seems like all that work for Barisma went to Joe's pocket. Typical attack on a power plant is to take down the transmission lines......easier to fix when the war is over. Russia is destroying the entire plant.

We are wasting money.
