Actually Inter, short for Internazionale, IS of Communist heritage as I remember it. The Internationale is the song of global communism, and I think that's part of what caused the split in Milan back in the day.

Now, it's been a long time since I read about that, going from memory, which is always dangerous.

Tampa will get a team before Miami, IMO. most of the Hispanic community in Miami includes more recent Cuban immigrants and these folks are mostly into baseball. Cuba is one of the worst teams in CONCACAF and the world for a reason.

Interestingly enough, however, Fort Lauderdale has a good soccer history, back to the old NASL.

Inter Atlanta is a fricking awful name

I am thoroughly disappointed in all of you who said otherwise.

I would be ok with Sheep's suggestion, or maybe Oh-God-Please-Let-Our-Athletic-Intercity-Youth-Take-A-Liking-To-Soccer FC

In that case wouldn't you want a name that appeals to them?

Atlanta City Ballers?

Thugnificent FC?

Atlanta Denchers?

Why did the Soccer Board pick Atlanta over Hattiesburg as the MLS city for the Southeast?

Sign a few Honduran National team members and it would sell out season tickets.

NOLA has the third highest population of Hondurans of any city on the planet.

Isn't it obvious?

I'm not counting Florida in the South (hehehehe), so here's the list of potential cities in order.

1. Atlanta
2. Charlotte
3. New Orleans
4. Nashville
89. Hattiesburg

Well we can't have that. Fear words previously associated with the boogeyman.

ETA: Internazionale refers to the split from AC Milan due to a schism over whether the club should accept international players. The internationals in question were Swiss. The only remote association with anything political was during the rule of the fascists when they were forced to merge with another club and change the name to something that did not include the name "inter".
