I know Gmail says if you created an account like something.something@gmail.com, it means you have all iterations of that like somethingsomething@gmail.com, but I do have one of these email addresses, and I'm seeing some weird stuff.

I have this email, and I basically use it as a secondary email, so I use it for Uber and some other things, and not my primary email that I correspond with people with.

About 3 years ago, I started getting emails from a church in Canada. It was a harmless discussion group of leaders in the church discussing outreach, and such. When I looked at the email they had for me, it was somethingsomething@gmail.com. I emailed the group back when I first got it and told them that I was not the person they intended to include, but they never responded, and I kept getting the emails, so I sort of just ignored it.
I then got an email from a hospital in Canada emailing information to what I assume was this same person, who apparently was giving out my email address. I unsubscribed from their email and let them know it was not my email address. Never got another from them.

Now yesterday, I get one of those google alerts that someone is using my email as a recovery email for another gmail account. It said if it wasn't me to ignore it,which I have.
Also yesterday, I got 4 emails from login.gov asking me to confirm my email address. I am ignoring those as well.

I look at my sent emails and such and it's only the ones I have sent out from this address. Should I check with Google or something? Should I just continue to ignore, or do something? I think it's reasonably impossible to talk to Google about gmail issues, but I want to make sure somehow my gmail address isn't in use by someone else.

Change your password and turn on MFA.

I'm pretty sure some people just don't know their own email address.

I have two gmails, a generic@gmail.com and first.last@gmail.com

A high school girl in the midwest with the same name as me was giving everyone first.last@gmail.com for about 3 months

A guy named Matthew in California had my generic gmail as his redbox receipt, mazda dealer email, and campsite reserviation email

I can only assume they had the generic1@gmail.com or something that they either forgot to write down or whoever entered their email address in the system didn't catch

I agree, but you would think when they aren't receiving expected emails they would try to fix it.

My first name (not Billy) has multiple spellings... think Billy vs. Billie. So I constantly have someone emailing BillyLastname@gmail.com instead of BillieLastname@gmail.com. I have been invited to family outings and some poor soul is left out of the loop. I've emailed the family and let them know, but they have one lady in the group that still includes me.

Also, some people add numbers to their email and forget. So their email address might be johnsmith80@gmail.com, but they register for things with johnsmith@gmail.com b/c they forget to add the numbers. Meanwhile, johnsmith is getting email that doesn't belong to them

Here's one: I have a number of squatted Gmail addresses that are very high profile (actors/athletes/etc)

Let's say I had honeybadger@gmail.com

From time to time, I will get emails that really do seem like they are from Gmail (noreply@google.com) entitled "Google Verification Code".

quote:

Dear Google User,

We received a request to access your Google Account honeybadger123@gmail.com through your email address. Your Google verification code is: xxxxxx

So, what gives? I just don't understand what the scam is. If it's someone that successfully stole my password but then got stuck at MFA, why doesn't the Gmail address match?

And if it's a fake email...to what end? They are not asking me to send them anything.

I've gotten these sporadically for years. TIA

This.
It’ll want you to install the you tube app for MFA.
